need your ideas: broken dashboard

https://photos.app.goo.gl/MujkyDKaPtjaG3i69

I found an interesting 1983 Wagoneer Limited in good condition
but unfortunately the Dashboard (Speaker area) is broken / cracked.

If someone has already improvised here
or did similar repair work or has some ideas please post your pictures ....

A dashboard picture is here:

----------------

A new (used) dashboard might be an option but unsure about colour.
It is a 1983 Wagoneer Limited - the interior colour is NOT NUTMEG and NOT HONEY but much lighter - is this TAN at that time?

An external speaker grille? Need to have a speaker though. It would bug me no end to have a grille without a speaker.

Yes, that interior color name is indeed "tan". Jeep got real creative with that name!

You maybe able to cut the bad section out and somehow glue in a replacement section, it may not even have to come from another Jeep. Blending the repair in maybe pretty hard, but I know people have used bondo on Chevy dashes and made very nice looking repairs. Then you could have a can of dye mixed up to match the original color. Here in the US NAPA can do that.

Mine was completetly shot on top where the speaker goes, I used expanding foam from home depot to fill the area in, sanded it, then skimmed the top with bondo and painted the entire dash. It came out ok but if i could find a replacement dash I'd certainly replace it instead.

There is another member on here that just had their dash vinyl wrapped. maybe do the "expanding foam from home depot to fill the area in, sand it, then skim the top with bondo" and have it vinyl wrapped? I thought it was a good idea and would be cost effective. I have seen other folks have theirs leather wrapped, too and it looks amazing.

Same One

I have the same jeep in my stable as a parts jeep . Looked at dash today it is good . I will be removing windshield soon so I can cut some cowl sheet metal out that I need for another jeep . so I will remove dash pad to keep out of the weather and check condition . It broke my heart to strip this jeep up but it is what it is....

I don't have a google acct and don't intend to so I can't see your pics of the damaged area. if the area isn't too large and you just want to hide it. I've got a couple different style stamped metal speaker grilles. Not handy but I can find them. One style is sort of oval shape, the other a rounded corners rectangle. I think about 6" wide and 9" long overall dimensions? Both type are orig flat black painted. I've got at least a couple of each. Never been used, not bent, dented or rusty etc. Nope no pictures either. I bought them for a previous project as a cover up for rotted perforations in the vinyl covering a dash speaker. I ended up with a few cause the guy had no use for them so got them all for the price of one. If you think something like that might work for you PM me. One of each is free, but you pay postage.

I don’t know if it will work well over a dash pad, but we cut that area out and put in a small tray on my metal dash. It will get a rubber liner and be used to hold phone, GPS, what not. You could find a similar item (we used a very small cookie sheet type thing from the kitchen section of a box store). Epoxy it in after painting it an appropriate color.. May be more useful than that dash speaker..

pics are in the link in my sig. picture 379 and 409 has best view of it..

My sons dash is the same, the speaker area is completely gone. I'm going to pull it and see what I can do with this stuff I found..

https://www.polyvance.com/Repair-Cracked-Dashboard/

I'm going to block off the speaker hole with a piece of tin and fill it in with 2 part expanding foam to build it up.
