Has anyone replaced their neutral safety switch

I'm troubleshooting my backup lights. I'm pretty sure its the neutral safety switch. The one I have is original and pretty krusty green. Is this a part that NAPA carries? It seems a bit random for a typical store to carry.

Its a standard Delco switch. Any parts store should have it in stock. I replaced mine about three years ago. I believe it was about $8 at Pepboys.

not any parts store will have it. I went to Auto Zone to try to get one for my 80, but, they didn't have one in stock for that year, and, they said that none of their stores in CA have them for those years.

          Fornesto,
Carquest part # NS-15 in their EC line. Take this number to NAPA and they can cross reference. It's a GM switch looks like it goes under the dash.

            6foot4again,
There's something screwy in their catalog. Your switch is a dead common Chrysler back-up switch used on Torqueflites from 1962-2003! Carquest (Standard Ignition) part # NS-11, about $10 from most anywhere. I'd go Carquest or Napa. Dirty little secret of autoparts, the guys who write the catalogs aren't parts jockeys and they make a lot of mistakes. Autozoners on average don't know how to check their paper catalogs (instead of believing everything the computer tells them) to double check mistakes like this "missing" application, always double check with another parts store.

yea I did it in my 91. It was pretty easy but make sure you have a drain pan ready. Atf makes a big mess.

put in a ford 460 and disconnected quite a bit of wiring in the process. is the switch on column on the trans? how do i identify it? is the backup light on the same switch as the neutral safety? sorry for all the questions.

'82 the back up light switch would have been on the transmission. Would have been a round connector with three pins, (1) hot with ignition on, (1) for park/neutral start , (1) for reverse lights

given the fact that i have a ford c-6 trans is there anyway to make the this work? is there anything on the column that acts as a switch or does is all happen at the tranny switch? i know i could always hook up a toggle for the backup lights but how would you do a neutral safety?
