Jeff in Denton was gracious enough to hook me up with a bumper for my latest project. However, it is one of the chromed aluminum ones, and is of course peeling. Anyone know of a sure fire, fairly non-toxic way to remove the chrome short of spending hours peeling it off by hand?

Take it to a plater. They soak and reverse the polarity and the plating jumps off instead of on. I don't know of any homebrew that'd work. Or look for a later bumper. The later ones are just polished alum then clear coated.joe

I would get it done professionally. When you remove chrome it becomes hazardous waste and you can face some big fines if you don't dispose of it properly."And on the 8th day God created beer."

If it were me, I'd take the bumper to a chrome shop and have them strip it the right way and then put a fresh coating on it.Try out my gear ratio calculator

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Do you intend to paint it? If so, I can trade you for one that I have the PO ruffed up the surface and rattle-canned black. It needs to be repainted right.Mark B. Jones

Acid would do it... We remove chrome at work using acid (we put the chrome one and remove it to try again if it doesn't work right for some reason). We use something really strong like hydrochloric but I am sure something weaker would work... Just take longer.88 Waggy
