    (TOM) Dauntless 350 stuff

If you wanna build a super-strong Dauntless350, use a 350 diesel block. I have seen this done, and it works well, especally with blowers, high compression pistons, nitrous, and that sort of stuff. I'm not sure what heads are the best to use with this. The diesel crank is also stronger. This sort ouf build-up is more for competion engines of 400-600 hp or more, im not sure if its worthwhile for daily drivers.

500 ponies in my J. Probably break something
I'd love to see some feedback on this subject though. Especially headers, upgraded dist/ignition.

Yup, the diesel blocks have thicker cylinder walls, heavier internal webbing, etc. etc. etc...but there's a small problem--the 350 Diesel is an Oldsmobile.

What's wrong with Oldsmobile? It's a BOP pattern.

Nothing wrong with Olds (my favorite, actually)...it's just not a "Dauntless 350". Can't build a Buick with an Olds block.

              caddy...lol.....

anyway, I'v ebeen able to find some good parts from www.taperformance.com for my Buick 350. They're devoted entirely to BUick engines, with Stage I and II performance stuff.

The problem with the caddy 500 is the front sump oil pan and pickup, this would make lots of clearance headaches. I think you'd have to use a pretty big shoehorn to squeeze it in there. If you can fab up enough stuff to make it fit, though It's a cheap, readily available engine that makes incredible gobs of torque!
Hotrod magazine took a cad 500 block and bolted on early 472 heads and netted a compression ratio of around 12:1!! This requires hi octane race gas, but they built a hi-po 500cid bomb for close to nothing with junkyard parts!
They stuffed it in a chevette and ran 11's at the dragstrip.
Just think of what a mill like that would do in a FSJ with 1 ton axles and 44" boggers!!! Can you say UNSTOPPABLE???

No need for a shoehorn --both Maximum Torque Specialties and Cad Company offer installation kits with rear-sump oil pans and pickups.

Irrh, I've got the TA catalog. Have you used any of their parts? specifically the headers. I wonder if they would fit my truck.
