Rod, main, and Cam bearing recommendations or advice?

just dropped my 401 stuff off at the Machinist. I need to order Rod, Main, and Cam bearings.

I see OEM was Clevite 77s. Anyone have any advice on bearings before I order them? Stay away from certain brands, positive experience with others? This machinst basically said, any name brand is good but they typically use Clevite or King...

I haven't rebuilt a motor in many years so can't attest to quality in 2018 but I've used Clevite in the past and never had premature bearing failure.

King is fine, I opted for Clevite tri metal P series for lt1 rebuild.
Made in USA according to boxes.

          ok, copy all. thanks guys.

Looks like cam and main bearings are the same in 360/401 but rod bearings differ. (going off part numbers are rockauto)

OEM was federal mogul, which is junk. if you had clevite they were changed.

i prefer clevite, and also like acl. acl makes an oversize thrust bearing. acl are also full groove mains tho, which means the rods are oiled 360 degrees, which is fine altho not necessary, and will lower oil pressure.

clevite, and the oem were half groove mains. i would run half groove mains given the choice.

Wow, I've tore a lot of these engines apart and never seen am stamped clevites. Always federal mogul.

My motor was built then?!?! That's what those numbers mean?!?! SWEET!!! I have the early stud mount rockers (casting numbers are 3216090-1) but my block casting number was 71-78.

I would assume that means the bearings were made March of 73 or does it mean they were installed in March of 73?

I ordered all Clevite 77 bearings for my rebuild because they seem to have good ratings all over the place, were OEM, and have been around for decades.
