    77 Headliner - Thoughts?

So my Chiefs headliner is warped / messed up- Shocked! [NOT shocked]

    Headliner

I see BJs has a full kit - but... Not a cheap part.
A few questions - comparing this kit to having a generic headliner made at a local interior shop...
Not concerned with originality, just want a clean install.

    Questions:

+ Is it a good fit?
+ Can a hack mechanic like me install successfully?
+ Has anybody had good success with this?
    + Fit and finish good?

    Thought Gents?

    . . . and GO !

If the backer boards are in good shape just buy enough headliner material from an upholstery shop to cover both front and rear sections. I bought more than enough for $60, which looks like a savings of $400 or so even after factoring in the $20 or so for spray adhesive.

        Bummer.
Distortion is one thing, but if the material isn't too damaged or destroyed you might be able to get it wet and reshape it. I'll be doing a bit of that with my front and rear pieces, both plucked from an earlier 83 model. Mine are a bit discolored from water, but not moldy or separated, so definitely reuseable.

I bought a part from a guy on Craiglist that had a 77 WT and he tried installing the BJs kit and it did not work well for him. All his other work was really nice so I do not think it was him. He worked with BJs to make things right as far as money goes. My understanding is us 2 door Cherokees have a slightly different, slightly wider headliner than the 4 door FSJs. I have no facts to back this up but read it somewhere, sometime ago. I currently do not have a headliner at all, either so I am interested in what you come up with.

I am considering just going to an upholstery shop and let them make one. Trying to plan ahead as cosmetics are in line after paint.

I had quotes ~$200 for new headliner from 2 different local shops.
Personally when I get around to it that is what will happen.
$400+ is crazy imho for cardboard&fabric.

                Kind of agree on this...

AND I could care LESS about being original anyway.

Just want a headliner that looks "normalish"...

Seems to me Kaiserjeeps makes them but you would need the hoops and, of course, the holes in the correct places in the vehicle. Idunno if they kept putting them in once they went to the foam.

coroplast or foam core can be an alternate to the cardboard base, 48" x96"

replacing mine and it looks like they replaced them with a color matched card board. but it is seperating and sagging. problem is the original backer board is no longer there. I would like to make some replacements but can't figure out what to use. I thought about using bathroom beadboard but not sure if I could make that
