Retro '87 GW project pics

I finally got the emblems on my '87 GW. As my teenaged son sez...I "de-badged" the Waggy and got all of the adhesive goo off of the wood grain without causing any damage. I am going for the old school, early 1970's, look with this thing. I love it when people ask me what year the Waggy is.

I have the "Quadra-Trac" emblems but it does not look to good with them. I had planned on putting the Quadra-Trac emblems on the rear/lower portion of the front fenders near the doors.

I may just keep the tailgate clean, without any emblems.

I removed the front center arm rest and installed a padded locking storage console. I also upgraded the interior courtesy lamps to LED strips. Nice and bright when you open the doors.

I also finished up the rhino conversions and removed the factory fog lights(for now). Any ideas on the project would be appreciated.....

Thanks...Rick

WOW!

Me likey!

The emblems and Rhino Chaser look great on there.

I know what you mean about people asking what year your Waggy is. My '91 is completely stock and I get asked all the time "What year is it?". People almost seem disappointed when I tell them it's a '91.

post some interior pics too. I've been thinking about doing the center console to my '89 and am always interested to see what the various options look like.

i usually play a game with them, starting by telling them wags were made from 63 to 91 without many changes to sheetmetal etc - then i ask them to guess first what year they think it is....

Looks great man
I think a rhino looks better on a white GW than a black one.

I would also like to see your interior
I've been prototyping a wood center console, looking for more ideas

Here is the console and under hood pics........

I just ran outside and shot some pics of the center console and under the hood.

The console was bought on eBay for a reasonable price. The "spice" color matches well and is very comfortable. I also like the fact that it has a lock on the doors. It came with an insert for a six pack since the rear compartment can double as a cooler.

I took the hood off this summer and removed all the old insulation. I bought the insulation kit online and it was a breeze to install. I was glad that I had taken the hood off. I layed the hood down on it's back and used books to press down, gently, on the insulation to ensure that the glue grabbed in all the spots. It's wild how much new insulation makes the engine compartment look clean.

See ya...Rick

It is affordable to customize our rigs by mixing trim up over the years. Your Waggy looks great Rick! White is my favorite FSJ color. I would skip the QT emblems for the old school 4 Wheel Drive badges and also look for 360 badges to go with the fender darts. Just my taste. But they never made those V8 badges with 401 on it for FSJs...
