While building my wag I had to replace the tailgate and hinge's, well actually I replaced more than just that.

Now the hinge bolts have stripped the plate they go into and I need a way to get the bolts to hold again. I did think about welding the hinges to the body but then I can't adjust the tailgate to fit properly.

Any help?

Since it looks like you're good with body work, maybe fill the holes, and drill and tap again?

that plate is really flimsy back there in the pocket, doesn't take much for the welds to pop off (feels like sheetmetal tacked in there.

Ever take the door hinges off? There's a heavy metal plate in there that the bolts seem to suck in, maybe make a smaller version for the tailgate bolts, and use some thin head allen bolts to screw in there (vs the easily stippable impact phillips that Jeep used).

Finding those beveled inset phillips any bigger would be kind of a pain I would think, but doable too I suppose.

whoops, missed that was for a wag, I was referring to the truck beds.
