    amc 360 vs dodge 360

What are the differences between amc 360 and dodge 360 engines dimensionally. Are the bellhousing patterns they same? My buddy's amc in his 88wag went south and we were discussing replacement engines and neither one of us was knowledgable enough of the origins of his original motor

Different bellhousing, exhaust manifolds, etc. The dodge 360 would not be an 'easy' swap.

Only to the AMC stuff. The 360's have nothing in common except their displacement.

You do know that AMC is an individual brand, Just like Chevy, Dodge or Ford. Why do so many people see 360, and immediately associate it with Dodge?

What's funny, is I've never seen anyone ask if a Ford 360 is the same thing.

It could have something to do with CHRYSLER ... alot of people only know of Jeep "belonging" to them.

What.. so does that mean I could throw a Ford 390 in there.....

The AMC 390 was ony avail. for one year right ?
It's not the leaks that bother me, it's when they stop that makes me worried.

Hmmm I guess if you're wanting to know dimensionally how they match up then the only thing the same is if you would take peanut butter and smear it all inside the engines then you would have to have about 360 cubic inches of peanut butter.

On the other hand if you are saying you do not have that much experience with engines then it isn't an off the wall question. If you are wanting to rebuild an engine then AMC 360s are fairly plentiful. There's one in my garage taking up space now in fact I often hear of 'Hey if you want to drag this wagoneer out of my field you can have it' You can get a donor waggy and learn on it w/out digging into your wannabe DD. Or I heard of people wanting less than 3K to remove rebuild and reinstall in a wagon.

But then again I guess the options have no limits. I think you should buy my 1963 Wagon with a Chevy inline6 in it.

No but when I had my "70" model AMX with a 390 everyone thought it was a Ford engine.

Thanks guys, that is pretty much along the lines I was thinking, that it would not work. I think part of the confussion as far as brand reconition goes is that it has a chrysler tranny behind it.

They have had Chevy and Chrysler automatic transmissions behind them.
