Pignose on a 83 Cherokee Laredo

Was it possible to get a pignose from the dealer on a 1983 Cherokee Laredo? Mine had one on it when I got it and the previous owner said it was on when he bought it in 1996. Just trying to restore me car to 100% factory on the body

No. Muscle grille only on 81-83 Cherokees.

Correct. Last year for the Pig Nose on Cherokees and J-trucks was 1980. The Wagoneers/Grand Wagoneers kept the Pig Nose up to 1985.

Thanks, was just kinda wondering if it could have been a special order since this laredo had some interesting configurations for a laredo. No AC, no power windows, no cruise, no towing

If possible, it would have been an expensive way to get less? Would have been a lot cheaper to buy a 4-dr model 18 Pioneer and add the Laredo decals.

I know, it came with those options though. Vin checks as a laredo and everything. I bought it from my friend who bought it used from a dealer in colorado in 1996. All he ever did was put a new engine in it.

So the pignose has been on it since 1996 at least.

Also doesn't the muscle have different tabs at the bottom, or require a couple of holes drilled?

I'd take a close look @ valance specifically evidence of repaint & color change/replaced sheetmetal?
Also look @ the lower mounting brackets for pignose grille.
A pignose valance will be/is different than a late model valance.

What does the hood release lever look like?

I'd venture a guess possible collision damage, and easier/cheaper to locate/use pignose parts vs. muscle grille parts?
Who knows decades pass and people do all kinds of things.

Collision could be possible, but there's not evidence of it anywhere as far as I can tell. No color change even on the primer as have slowly been in the process of repainting it. Lower mounts appear to be factory tac welds. Hood release is cable pull from inside and the latch on drivers side. Same factory seam sealing crap around the valance as the rest of the car as well.

Everything I can see on my car points to it being factory, but I've never seen or heard of another 83 having it.

A quality auto body repair would be to replicate factory finish.
*if* valance was replaced from damage they would obviously try to replicate factory procedures etc.
If done correctly it would be very difficult to distinguish from original.

sometimes it takes sanding a small hidden area to look for previous work.
