    360 Build

    Hey Guys,

It is time to rebuild the 360 in my 88 GW and I need some help.
I have read all of the build threads and some of them go back a ways so I was wondering what new things might be out there. I am listing below the direction I think we will be heading, I just need some advice on cparts for my engine guy. He is a Chevy kinda fellow.

    360 Block - 30 over
    compression - ?? I would like 9.5
    stock heads - valve job
    rockers - 1.6 rollers
    Cam - ?
    Intake - ?
    Ignition - HEI
    exhaust - headers/2.5 or 3" duals

I am fine with lope but it needs to idle.

    Thought?
    Suggestions?

I will also be lifting and changing gear ratios.

    Thanks in advance.

Offy equaflow intake. Performs grind cam. Stick a 5200-5600 rpm governor in the transmission too.

I think many would say Summit 8600 cam or Comp Cams 10-201-4 cam, 260H grind (or shop around at Comp- there are similar grinds) Intake- Edelbrock Performer or the Offy. On mine I am going with the Comp Cams 260H and Performer intake (when I get there, delayed progress )

      Hope this helps

I wouldn't run another 8600 if I was paid too.

When I was looking around at cams, I read old threads (here and elsewhere) and some folks thought that it was decent. I guess not?

What make the offy a good choice?

What is the general consensus of the Lunati Voodoo 256/262 cam and lifter Kit?

I'm thinking about going with the stock 4bl intake on the '79's 360.

I'm happy with my CC 268H. Also, worth the extra coin to have hardened exhaust valve seats installed when you get the heads done.

The lunati voodoo I ran was ground 12 degrees off, which is ridiculous, and it seems is typical for them. Once corrected it ran fine but it had nothing over the far cheaper melling performer grind. This was the small voodoo grind.

The offy equaflo is a split single plane. Which flows better at mid range. In theory it would give lesslow end off idle as a performer intake, but in my experience it matches the dual plane performer off idle as well.
As an added bonus it means no edelbrock parts on your motor.

Charles, the stock 4barrel setup is junk.

                    Thanks for the info Ristow.

I'm in Golden, CO and have to deal with emissions and stock setups. nothing says not stock like BS edelbroke logos everywhere.

in Stock 4bl vs stock 2bl is the 4bl better?

There is a good thread here on the 360, this is where I first heard of the voodoo. This guy seemed to have good results.

a decent working stock 4 barrel would have more snort than the stock 2 barrel. but not much, and you may have hassles getting it working well, due to age, warped top cover and previous "tuning".

going any bigger than the small voodoo cam on a stock low compression block is giving up low end for mid range you dont use. and the melling performer grind is half the cost, and i have used many and never had one need to be corrected on timing. the voodoo was off so far i had to skip a tooth on the cam sprocket and user the retard keyway.

stock 4bbl square bore intakes are out there too.
the edelbrock egr performer is emissions friendly and "usually" will slide through inspection, but technically not "legal".

That's a good idea tony, Charles. Find a square bore stick intake, put a Holley on it, I have Holley float bowls with charcoal can fittings I can send you. Would look stocking

I too am rebuilding my 360 and it's my first motor build. It is hard to sift through everyone's opinion to actually know what the right parts to get are. What all are you planning on doing with yours? I'm trying to find a good EFI conversion and learning how to size a cam and all that jazz. It's a lot of homework!

                              In my opinion...
I would go with a 268H cam and a Air Gap or Performer intake.
