    Random Part Contest!

I've been pretty diligent on labelling and bagging parts but one has fallen through the cracks. This little fella has been sitting on my transfer case. I did put new clutch cones in it a few months ago. What is it and where does it go?
    Winner gets a big thanks!

I think that is the retainer for the relative bearing that mounts in the Fallopian tube. It keeps the dicyfler from oscillating at harmonic frequencies. I think....

If you're looking for guesses, it looks like a stud for a coil spring leg to bear against.

Any wear marks on the side of it?

Thanks for the guesses but I don't think we have it yet. No marks on it. Threaded on one side. I'm leaning towards maybe a dowel. Transfer to Trans Case?

Idunno. From here in the second picher it looks like a fairly deep groove up against the hex that doesn't seem to be in the first pic.

Could it be an alignment dowel for the 2 case halves? My case has 2 alignment dowels (one on either side). I did not remove them on mine so I am not sure what they look like but maybe?

Oh wait!! I think I know now! That is one of the 2 studs that threads into the forward half of the case, on the outboard side, next to the front output yoke. There should be 2 of them and a rubber puck/doughnut/hanger thing was on it and part of your exhaust hung there!

You can see them here, coated in grease on the far left side of the picture!

                      Looks like.

If he backs up from that last pic and angles down some we can see if you're right.

Yes Rang got it! Thanks for everybody's help. So Rang if you drive your FSJ up to Canada I will buy you a coffee.

Funny I could swear I went up and down that TC looking for a spot for that part. Sometimes it pays to just walk away, sleep on it and come back.

Now I'm wondering where my other one is..

Thanks again. I've said it before the forum is very helpful for a nube.

Stayed tuned I'm getting close to putting in the drivetrain. The question flood gates are going burst open.
