wheel'n pics (more pics now on page 2)

Here in AZ some of the best wheel'n weather is late winter and early spring.

Today Kevin and I went out with an older CJ and newer Unlimited.

What a great day out. Sunshine, some clouds, high 60s and low 70's. We had a great time wheel'n 'Elvis'.

Here are some pics:

Pretty good flex for a leaf spring:

A tight spot:

Here is the SWB jeep getting through:

a tight spot for a for a FSJ

Really fun day. Kevin is an awesome spotter. We cleared some spots by not much more than the thickness of a credit card.

Check back for more pics...

Awesome photos. Was there a cliff on the downside of those rocks? Looks like it was an amazing day!

Funny enough that JK is longer and wider than an FSJ :P

Not sure about what you are asking about with the cliff.

The JK seemed a little thinner than the wide tracks. He used did some sliding as well but no body damage either. (Kevin spotting)

Jeff, next time we can take your pickup!

Some more pics

In these second photos I can see the bottom, so its just the edge of the rocks. The body on the JK is a little narrower, I think about an inch per side. Which makes a noticeable difference. Axles are wider though (65" WMS) and the 4dr's have a 116" wheelbase.

Must be nice to be able to do winter wheeling. But then you guys probably dont do much summer wheeling with the heat.

Mike,
thanks for posting these. It was a fantastic day. I am going to get Kristen to get the picts off our camera. In that last obstacle, she got a great shot of my front driver tire 4-5 feet in the air. I still think if it was dry, I could have walked it. Thanks for the winch out again. I am now completely convinced it is time to cut out the rockers and build some of those 3"x5" tucked in sliders.

Thanks for the compliments on spotting. I always love being able to get someone through something they don't think they can and then they realize the body came through just fine. A little patience goes a long way. It still amazes me what we can get that 2" spacer'ed lift open diff JK through.

Weather was perfect, and the jeeps did great. Only casualty was a coolant overflow bottle, now ported. Mike can explain.
Kevin

Oh and btw,
that '76 CJ is sporting some recently swapped in '77 QT waggy axles that got 4.56-gears, a front lock-rite and rear Detroit True-Trac, also running a front full width shackle reversal. So it is a partial FSJ, and includes a quadratrac case Gabe and I built. Finally, it is also running a 360 out of the donor waggy too.

The ESP on a JK works amazingly well. I can have two tires in the air and still pull forward thanks to the ESP.

You gotta post the photo of the tire in the air!

It will be repainted right? That seems to help Kevin's ability to spot...

Maybe it is easier to see the reflection? Perhaps it blended too well before the paint. Maybe it was the driver?

My wife and I were looking at them on our TV (playstation has a SD card slot). In this shot it almost looks like I had scraped the heck out of the door:
