    Delta gets a 455 Olds

Hope the pic works. Delta is my 1970 that I have driven the wheels off the last couple years, the 360 wasn't bad, but underpowered and hated RPMs. Built a 455 Olds for it, ported, balanced, etc., should be at least 400 HP. I've built and raced a few 455 Olds. Took quickest Olds in 2007 Hotrod drag week with my 442.
What it took,,,,, Hooked it up to the T18 using a Buick bell I had, starter pocket is on wrong side. With a gear mini starter, just had to die grind room for the gear that pops out. Drill crank for input shaft (typical on Olds for any manual conversion) custom pilot bushing. The input shaft was a bit long, used a BOP to Chevy tranny adaptor to gain a 1/4" more space, used GM clutch fork clearanced a bit to slip on the AMC throw out bearing. Clutch linkage, had to shorten the Z-bar 1 1/2", drilled and tapped the mini starter to mount motor end of Z-bar (worked very well). Motor mounts, used the 360 mounts (moved back a bit) with a 1 1/2" spacer to get proper height. Had to move heater box over a 1/2" and small dent in tappet cover for hydro-boost. First drive yesterday, WOW! It's what I hoped for, pulls willingly to 5,500 RPMs, power to spare, too early to tell on mileage, but I'm willing to bet its better.

Don't mind at all, I struggled to get pic posted. I could take more of modifications if anyone wants.

I'm interested. I'm fully invested in a 401 myself, but it looks like a great swap.

Not a GM guy but those 455 BO&P's are pretty awesome engines.

I'm finishing up my '63 J300 with a '69 Olds 350. Mines a TH400/Dana 20. Fired it for the first time a week ago, but haven't had it moving yet. I can't wait to see how it drives.

I'll see if I can't get some more pics. It's a 69 engine, only thing aluminum is the old 04B intake I had laying around. Put some miles on it today shaking it down, all I can say is, WOW! Smooth effortless power. Sorry to the purist, I'm sure that the 360 can be made to run. But I wish I'd have done this when I built the truck a couple years ago. A mid thirteen second J-truck ROCKS, don't care what anybody says.
That said I travel all over the country, and I have a 360 for sale, about 70k on it, runs good, came out of a 76 Cherokee, Bell and various parts. I'm sure this belongs in parts for sale, but I have a bunch of FSJ stuff I'd part with.
RPG,,,,, That's awesome, love that air cleaner Tonka J-200

Nice, but I wouldn't want to be any of your axles....LOL

                        First 130mph rig I ever road in was a 66 delta......425 rocket.....

Then owned the only factory 400hp 455 they ever built,,that was all day at 140 in 5K rig....long nose.....haha

Seriously thought this was right beside the rat motors for quality, much better than the Ponchos and Buicks.

It's not an SUV. It's an SEV: Surface Exploration Vehicle.

Trailers belong behind trucks, not under them.

Why? Because nobody in the history of 'wheeling has ever said, "good thing I put those smaller tires on my rig."
