    Gladiator Tailgate Decals

I'm wanting a few. I think Tonka was making some awhile ago but I never heard back from him about these in PM. Is there anywhere else these can be found, or if you see this, are you still making them Tonka?

I'm swapping badges on my truck since I prefer the look of the older stuff, plus I never understood why they did away with the Gladiator name. So I'd like to get one on my gate now and then have at least one spare, maybe more just in case, for when the truck gets painted down the road. Would be a plus if they could be made up in different sizes, wouldn't mind adding a smaller one to the dash somewhere.

You might try South Texas Amc. I got my AMC327 valve cover decals from him. He doesn't have the Gladiator decal listed, but might be able to print some up.

Did you ever get what you were looking for? I drew these up using the image you posted. Only thing is I don't really know how they are supposed to look, I've never actually seen a "nice" one. The one in your post is pretty messed up and blurry. The one in the link you posted (on the red truck) is kinda small and looks faded but looks like at least the "G" may have been white? The rest looks like it may be white too... or it's just a reflection in the image, I can't tell. I can't find a better image either. If I had a better picture, I could reproduce it almost exactly. Surely somebody out there has a good one they can post a picture of??? Dimensions would be nice too!!!

Anyway, if you like any of these, send me a PM with your e-mail and I can hook you up with a vector file that you can have cut or printed at your local sign shop. (probably be better printed on vinyl...or screened, layered vinyl has a tendency to peel at the corners when it's this small and intricate) If you figure out the dimensions, I can scale it for you. (I could probably have it made up and ship it to you too, if you like)

I made it 4 different ways, because I wasn't sure how it was supposed to be. The bottom 2 look the same but if you looks close, the white on the -ladiator on the bottom one has rounded corners. Which one looks right-est? or what could I change to make it right-er?

The G is 1 3/4" tall. The ladiator is 1 1/2" tall. At the widest point its 9 1/2" wide.

None. The top one is close, the only thing that needs to be changed is its whit, not silver.

Those look great. I think the originals are black and gold and most the gold has just flaked off since it is foiled I believe. I could just be imagining things though since those are the only pics of this decal I have ever found.

I actually prefer the black and silver though, and the three tones look great as well. Option 1 and 3 are my picks for sure. My tailgate is slightly different size than the ones these were found on, but here is a guess on dimensions after comparing the pics with my gate.

9.5" x 1.5" (Pmoreau posted while I typed, I was close for eyeballing. XD)

Does that even work out while still looking proportional? My tailgate may be too different from the older ones. My max space I have to work with is 2.5" tall by whatever long, would like it to stay under 2" tall though so it doesn't touch the P. For all heights I'm going off the G and lengths are from outermost points.

                  And you have PM

Thanks for the pics and dimension info! I also did some figuring by taking a picture of my tailgate with a tape measure against it and, in photoshop, overlaying the image of the tailgate on the red truck (that was in a link in a previous post). I lined up some of the features (bevels on the letters and corners of the recessed area) and I also came up with 9 1/2 inches wide.

Pmoreau, would you be so kind as to get me some more pics without the tape measure? As clear and hi-res as you can get. I know it's not in the greatest of shape, but most of the letter structure is still there. Just in the pics you posted I could see a few things that needed fixed in mine because i was guessing.

As far as color? So far I've heard white or gold-foil.
In my mind, I'm picturing them something like #3, white and black printed on mirror-chrome, but like I said, I've never seen a nice one (or even any in person, only in picture). This picture was the one that made me think that. To me, it looks too dark to have been a white base and kinda looks like a line traces the inside of the G (albeit faded), like the white area in mine. In the pictures you guys posted, they look white and like #1.

As far as price... Once I get a design finalized, I will look into having them made and let you know.

                    Thanks,
                    Jared

...And to further add to my confusion, I found this picture. I'm not even sure what it is or where it goes, but the letters are outlines, not solid... and not even exactly the same.

The tailgate decals were silver and black. The centers of the letters were also embossed with crosshatch pattern. It would be easy enough to replicate the decal in modern Mylar, but the embossed texture would involve a press. I think this is overkill. I would rather see somebody make a batch of dimensionally correct decals, in appropriate colors, and sell them cheaply enough that we can all put them on our tailgates, toolboxes and women.

When I get home from drill next week I'll take a measured pic of the surviving sticker on my 71. It's in pretty poor shape, but hopefully it will help somebody make a batch of these.

Now, if I could only find a couple black and chrome Dauntless 350 air cleaner decals and a 1971 underhood emissions decal...

Herk, more pics would be great. I'll take all I can get! I'm all about trying to make these as accurate as possible. I don't know if I could get an embossed area done or not (probably not). I might be able to do a crosshatch pattern with white that is printed-on in the area that was embossed. (I still have to see if the sign shop in town can print white on silver.)

                            #3 white?

I am disappointed to find traces of silver on my decal. I still want white though. Off-white, not appliance white. I'm not sure what layer the silver is though, you can see it in the black parts along the bottom edge. There must have been at lest 5 layers to the original decal. I see no sings of embossing.

Sorry, been super busy the past couple days...

That Gladiator decal pic is a big help, I can see a few things i need to fix. I will make some updates and give you guys another look tomorrow or the day after.

For the Dauntless 350 decal, the picture you posted is great. the graphics won't be hard to reproduce, but I'm going to have to ask you for a couple things. I hate to be a pest, and so far you've been a real trooper. This is what I'll need:

3 extreme close up pics (with your macro focus on) - one over the left side, one over the center and one over the right as perpendicular to the decal surface as you can get...

something akin to these I took of the air cleaner decal on my Concord (it was all i had close):

Next, since it's on a sloped and rounded surface, I would need a pencil rubbing to get the shape of the decal right. If you have any graph paper, that usually works best because the grid is typically 1/4 inch. If you don't have any graph paper that's not a problem, just measure out 3 inches or so and draw a scale on the paper that I can go by (doesn't need to be fancy, two lines 3 inches apart works great). then just scan the page with a scanner, or take a picture of it if you don't have a scanner.

                              Thanks,

                              Jared
