    Lifter noise/Rough running 360

I just bought an 81 Cherokee barn queen with 70,000K on the odometer. It has a 360 and is in overall decent shape. My issue is lifter noise and rough stuttering starts. The vehicle sat in this barn for years with minimal operation and I'm wondering if one or more lifters are frozen and not functioning properly. I've replaced all the obvious stuff (plugs/wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, cap/rotor, coil) and had the carb rebuilt, but to no avail. My question is would it be easier/cheaper to replace the lifters or would it be better to drop a new engine in?? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Try changing oil, and substituting 'Riselone Oil Treatment' for a quart of the oil.

If the lifters are just gummed up with old oil and sludge, will probably help or solve the issue.

Worked on my J20's 360, which had the same lifter problems.

Sounds like a reasonable solution...I'll give it a shot.

        Do the ATF thing.
Drain a few quarts of oil and fill with ATF.
Run it for about 30 minutes, get it good and warm, and drain the mix.
        Watch what comes out.
