1980 Windshield wiper motor and 1965 switch

    Sorry for the long post!!

OK so I am installing the final parts of my 1965 dash into my 1980 J10. I have the Speedhut gauges ready to go in and I figured out the 65 heater blower switch wiring today, but I cannot figure out how to interface the 65 Wiper switch with the 80 motor. The 80 motor has 4 wires, and the switch has 3 (1 of which is for the washer which I don't have/use). Anyway on the older switch/motor the motor is powered when key is on, and the switch controls speed. Have the switch on the bench. So off, there is no ohms. On low its the top and bottom connectors that go to the case, and on High only the bottom does. I have found pictures on here how the switch works with the older motor. What I need to find is a good drawing of the 1980 wiring for the motor. The oljeep wiring pages don't show how the motor works. The later wiring harness has about 6 wires (some for washer) but I think I have over looked something today after looking at about 50 pages of drawings.

Does the 4 wire motor work the same way as the older one?

Here is a drawing of the old motor and switch. I need the write up of the newer style to marry the two

A and B are grounded to make it work on slow speed and only B is grounded to make it work on high speed.

Thanks and maybe I am not seeing this clearly. I have been working on the wiring all day and my eyes are tired. Thanks!!!!

The 65 wiring is based off the GM wiring and here is a description of how it works. Looking for something similar for the 1980 so I can get them connected. Thanks.

looks like I might be SOL. The GM wiper motor grounds through the switch while the Ford style powers through the switch.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful. Have a good day!

5 pin Relay to reverse the circuit.
Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental.

Thanks Jim. Any chance you could do a quick drawing of that? Thanks and have a good day!!

The relay will have 5 contacts

Usually this is printed right on the relay.

Use the dash switch to power the relay coil through 85 and 86. Then connect the contacts of the relay to control the motor. If you need to switch ground to turn the motor on, connect 87 to the motor and 30 to ground.

Here is a discussion of relays in detail - http://www.teamrocs.com/technical/pa...lay_basics.htm
