Gas tank question

86, it sat for a year before I purchased.

I am still tinkering with random items and haven't taken it on a road trip yet. Therefore I haven't been to the bottom of the tank. I am a bit leery to go through the tank, and since my gas gauge doesn't work, I am expecting that I should drop the gas tank, replace the sending unit and see if the tank needs cleaning.

Any other general items I should consider doing when I have it apart? How much extra work is it to add in an oversized tank?

Also, where to get a new sending unit?

I think you will find an access hole in the floor under the rear seat by which you can replace the sender.

In many cases, it is not the sending unit, it is the wire connector that connected to top of the sending unit terminal that corroded because it is exposed to the element. As the previous post mentioned, you'll need to find that connection point under the driver side rear bench seat, (see if there is a circular access hatch) and examine the connection. You can ground the wire and should see the gas gauge move.
