Exhaust Leak - Air Injection Tubes

    Hey fellas,
This weekend, I hope to fix an exhaust leak on my new-to-me '88 Grand Wag. The PO installed a Holley 4-brl carb in place of the original. So, the air injection tubes are no longer connected. He attempted to weld the air injection tubes closed, but I'm pretty sure that's where my leak is. Now, for the question. Since the air injector tubes aren't connected, could I just remove them and fill the banjo bolt holes in the manifolds with regular bolts? If so, what size and thread bolts do I need? Do I need gaskets on the bolts or would steel washers do the trick? On an unrelated note, what tranny did this wag have from the factory? TH400 or 727? Thanks.

Well the bolts aren't easy to find, they're a 9/16's fine thread. You won't find them at Autozone or any place like that. In fact I couldn't even find them at Home Depot.

You shouldn't need any special washers on the bolts.

The factory tranny was the TF727.

Oh yeah, and the transfer case is a NP229, just in case you didn't know already.

I went to a local nut & bolt store and bought 1" length(I think that was the shortest they had). Applied anti- seize and installed.

I used slightly longer 9/16 bolts (2" I think), bottomed them out in the holes, then used a cutting disc to cut them flush with the manifold.

All the hardware stores are in such a competition around here right now I can find anything. Lowe's even has the well nuts for the cargo rack.
