I put in the HEI on my AMC's because the Spark module is going to melt and/or the resistor wire is going to catch fire! Ill be spending $48 for a module or fixing the wiring harness. So, I'd rather take my chances with the China HEI. Like I said, I've got almost 5 years on the one and 3 years on the other. I'm old enough to remember when everything made in Japan was junk

So whats the best mechanical advance for it. And what should the vacuum advanced be set to. For better running

i set the distributor up for the plow truck engine tonite, same way i do all of mine. mine all burn 87 octane without ping/detonation,and i run 12~15 degrees intial advance and manifold vacuum to the advance unit. so,here's the way i set mine up... my engines are fully stock,or 4 barrel holley with edelbrock performer grind

So where does the vacuum advance hook up exactly
Hook to a carb port or off the manifold like the break booster?

Your carb should have a small port on front for it, and if available use the timed vacuum port.

no,not the timed port. stick it on the small fitting on the brake booster fitting. use manifold vacuum.

So what's the reasoning behind not using the timed port?

The timed port is cheap Chinese vacuum, the manifold port is USA made vacuum.
