    NP208

I picked up a full drivetrain from what I was told was an 88 Wag. The transfer case sticker says 208 AM on it but it has vacuum lines from the engine to it. Isn't the 208 non vacuum?

So how can I determine what t-case it is? Is it possible it is labeled wrong?

You sure it says 208 and not 228?

1988 eh? Then for whatever reason I'd say it was misrepresented by the seller. 1983+ FSJ's only used 2 vac operated tcases. 228/229 depending on year and the 208 wasn't even avail after 1987. In 80-82 there was a 219 full-time tcase avail before the 229 in 83 but it was also a mechanical non-vac controlled tc.

Can you get us some pics of the case and where the vacuum lines go?

Possibly a 208 swapped into a later year rig, and the vacuum line is actually just the vent hose?

It looks like a 208 to me, but maybe someone else can throw in there. I would guess, like RamJetFSJ, that it's been swapped in at some point in the last 30+ years.

Circled in red is the 4wd switch wire, blue is the t-case vent line, and yellow I have no idea. Looks almost like a fuel line or something? Definitely not related to that t-case.

Going by Cecil14's pic the blue is the vent line. Yellow...don't know? Don't see a vac motor. If there was a vac shift motor for 228/229 it'd be on the side of the tcase not on top. I'd guess you can trust the 208 tag that's it's a swapped-in 208.

More than possible. Never trust anything you find on a 30+ year old vehicle. Who knows what someone did throughout its life.

Possible. As I recall, there is a vapor recovery line that runs in the same area. Could be that.
