    What would you do

I have two remaining muscle grill surrounds.
Both need serious polishing. I have a guy who has the equipment and expertise to do this at a cost of $350 each, when added to the original cost of the surrounds at $125 and $175 brings my sale cost to $475 and $525 respectively.

    To adequately package them takes box 72" x 20"x 20" weighing 10#

Average shipping cost has been about $320 (by Fed Ex)

Because of the high shipping cost, should I offer them for sale at pre-polished prices of $125 and $175 respectively or finished polished prices of $475 and $525 + $42 packaging + shipping?

    What would you do?????

I dont know how many people would pay 500 bucks for a muscle grill - or any style for that matter. If you're selling them, I personally wouldn't do anything that expensive to make fhem look better. Let the next owner decide how nice they want them to be and what it's worth to do it. Your time is worth something too.

I would personally not pay anywhere near that much for a grille, and even less for a partial grille. I get that these are becoming rarer, but that's just an astronomical figure to me. All the luck in the world to you for getting what you think they're worth, but I'm with the others: don't try to make them any more valuable, you're just as likely to price yourself out of the market and lose money.

I'm with the others, $500 is crazy for an entire grille let alone for just the surround. It's for a FSJ station wagon not for a 57 Chev collector car. Either sell them as-is or polish them yourself. Your shipping quotes also seem outrageous. Research other options besides Fedex. Your box size seems like it should be reducible. 72x20x20 at 10lb? The surround is really light thin stamped alum...where's the 10# come from? The USPS has size limits something like a total of 108" or 110" for L+W+H. I get the 72L and 20W but 20"H really? Grilles I've had lay a lot flatter than 20" tall ??? Get some big cardboard from an appliance shop and cut it down. Fine tune your shipping box size and you'll get more realistic shipping options.

I have shipped bumpers, fenders, quarter panels, valance panels, grille surrounds and complete dashes was never anywhere near $320.
No offense but that is just INSANE IMHO.
You can ship an engine across the country for less/same $.

Yes, folks on eBay pay stupid amounts of $ on parts, but honestly just list them for sale as is, with a reasonable shipping price and they'll sell.

I don't get the polishing either anyway? They're anodized, to polish it you'd either have to chemically strip them then polish, or sand the coating off then polish.
Be a royal PITA to keep one polished unless it's a garage queen.

I can honestly say snowshoe knows how to package the grilles

              I bought one from him

              he is honest

I tried UPS in the past and they ruined each grille shipped.

              FEDEX handles them better

I agree it is best to sell as is,.... and let customer decide whether to polish or not.

I have stripped and polished 2 of them,
it is a lot of time/work, especially if all by hand
.......but boy do they look great on an FSJ !!!

                Maybe he miss-typed and it's $32, not $320?
I shipped a whole grille once and it was $30 thru Fedex.

Shipping has become quite expensive. I recently sold a Javelin AMX grille (rare and valuable) and refused to go through the hassle of crating and shipping it. I listed it on my local Craigslist then did a "copy and paste" to 10 additional CL markets surrounding me, all within reasonable driving distance. It only took a few minutes per city/market area to list and the grill sold pretty fast. The buyer drove 5 hours to pick it up.

                      You're overpackaging them.
I get the wanting to protect them from damage but that # is crazy.
I only paid $70 for shipping a valance and 2 fenders...
Just wrapped them in bubble wrap and cardboard didn't even make it a "box".

If you want to package like an antique grandfather clock that's fine/your choice but with a box that big look into freight shipping. Probably ~$100.

Holy shizzle, if just the surrounds are worth that much then I've got GOLD hanging on my garage's wall! I have 2 full grills that are just dusty, and I thought the darn things at most were worth about $50 a piece!

NO, they are not for sale! Dont ask me! They are garage decorations and possible future fsj parts.
