I missed Ouray but am going now - GOT TRAIL MAPS?

    Hi gang,

This is the second year I missed the deal. I'm jealous but leaving on Saturday for Ouray. What the hay? It's the only time I have. Does anyone have trail maps or links to maps? Suggestions for semi-easy trails that are beautiful?

    I appreciate the help.

Stop into one of the rental Jeep places and ask. I've met TWO of the owner/operators and they're VERY nice and helpful.

... These links have a ton of INFO...
If you haven't done High altitude 'clift crawling' do Ophir Pass first... and Black Bear Last. Don't do Poughkeepies Gulch if its been raining or in a pure stock Truck...

... ... From the top of Corkscrew Gulch(pass) is my first choice. When you get to the top of the pass look for a trail leading higher up the mountain on the south side so you can climb a little higher for a better view.

You must do Imogene for the scenery and moderate challenge, Poughkeepsie is the most challenging as far as obstacles, clearance and skill.

The top of Imogene is an incredible view. We have been getting rain pretty regular lately. You could even get a chance of a little snow up at the higher elevations. I also recommend Ophir for the first pass to get started. California Gulch is also very scenic. Enjoy!

I bought two trail maps at the gas station in Ridgeway a few miles past Ouray. One cost $3.50 and is very plain and simple, thus readable. The other one is a colorful graphic artwork of all the trails with comments added like ?one way only here?. Nice souvenir for $6.

You guys rock. Thanks. Leaving in a few minutes. Now I gotta battle the Mojave. It's going to be HOT from LA to Four Corners then, whew, Colorado. Heck, it's 102 now in LA so we're crossing the desert tonight. Got coffee?

Hope you enjoy your time in Ouray. In a native Coloradoan's opinion, it is hands down one of the most beautiful area's in the state. It blows me away every time I go.

this is WAY late but the Guide to Colorado Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails describes just about everything you could ask for. Same for the one around Moab, was going to go to Ouray or Moab for Labor day but things being as they are will do it AFTER to get away from the crowds.

Well I finally got around to writing (October) after making it up in late August. Ouray is everything you all talk about. Best part of it though is Mouse's Chocolates. Their stuff is the best high altitude fuel. We had perfect weather. Flint, we stopped in Mancos on the way back to SoCal and visited Nate at Nathaniel's hatter in Mancos. He measured us for custom hats. Mancos is a very cool town and I would not mind trading life in LA for SW CO. Only money seperates me from that. Can't wait to go again next year. PS. My girlfriend loved it too.
