    Noob has questions on my 88GW. Updated w/Pictures

    I've been a member for a little while but just mostly lurked because I didn?t have a full size Jeep. I picked one up about a month ago and now I have a ton of questions. First the obligatory pics of the Wagoneer.
    ]

    Is an inside spare mount a factory/dealer item? It has a hitch with a Jeep decal on it so that what?s made me curious.

    [?ve flushed the frame and rockers with water and washed a bunch of little rocks and sand out, cleaned the behind the pass. wheel well where the jack is mounted. It had quite a bit of sand in it too. Other than removing the spare mount and cleaning out the same area, are there any other places that I should inspect and clean?

    Other than the roof rack grommets, are there any other places I should look for possible leaks?

    Other than matching the numbers, is there a way to see if the truck is original?

    How can I track the history? I believe I am the third owner but I would like to confirm that.

    Thanks, Joe

      just by looking at it from a original standpoint the wheels are from a pre 87 wag

        You're right. I never noticed the spokes are too wide.

          AMC didn't do the matching number thing. The engine build code on the motor is not incorporated into the VIN. The eng code gives the date built but not when it was actually installed on the assembly line . In 88 the 360 was the standard eng with no others optional. So if there is a 360 in your wag there's really no way to know for sure if it's the original motor.Since the eng code is on a tag on the valve cover you should probably check behind the motor mounts for the displacement numbers cast into the block just in case someone dropped in a 304 and used the original valve covers. Not likely but been known to happen. Your state vehicle registration dept. prolly has the ownership history but I don't think they can legally give you that info.

            Someone spent a lot of time stripping those wheels down and polishing them.

                I love how arguements end as soon as Ristow comments. Ristow is right...again.

                    They don't look so good close up. I'll clean them up and post before and after photos.

                          Clean out the fresh air vents in the kick panels, they clog up with leaves and leak water onto your floor, rusting it out.

                          NICE GW though!
