T18 + Atlas question! (Bull gear?)

I have a question for those who have replaced
a Dana 20 transfer case with and AtlasII behind
a OEM T18. The question is, do I need the bull
gear that is attached to the rear of the T18
when I install the Atlas or does it get discarded?

I'm selling my Dana 20 transfer case but my
Atlas has not arrived yet and so I need the
info because the Dana 20 buyer wants the bull
    gear also if it's available.

    Thanks!

hmmm, unless its a really new development they do not sell an atlas with a 6 spline input, and a "texas" d20 pattern. in order to use an atlas behind your t18,youll need to purchase an adapter for a d300 to give it a compatible mounting pattern and tailsahft for the atlas.this also means disassembly of the tranny to swap in the adapters tailsahft.

option #2 would be to sell your t18 as well and swap in a 4wd ford NP 435. it will have the round pattern, and all youll have to do is order the atlas with a 31 spline input

I ordered the Atlas T19A adaptor that
bolts the Atlas to the T18A. Everything is
in transit and should arrive this week. I
suppose I will be able to figure out the
answer to my question once I get everything.

let us know how it turns out. i fear youre going to find that you dont have exactly the right pieces to make it happen.

you told the guys at AA what year your t18 is?

hopefully youll have the right parts, but i think youre gonna hafta swap the tailsahft no matter what...

31 splines on the 80 and up t18. just like ford. this is a completely different animal than the pre 80 t18/d20

                OOOOH, OOOOH Yeah....
Keep this one in mind as a future option 'cause ya get the 6.69 1st gear and the shorter tranny (without the T18 input adaptor/spacer) would also leave you room for....... a lil $1,500 Ranger over/under drive!

Well, if he has a '80 on T18 it has the same pattern at the back as the Ford (as well as the 31 spline output) and the Atlas will bolt right up like they said.

I think FSJeeper was running that behind his Diesel and with a doubler behind that.
From the AA catalog you can get it in 17% underdrive, or 27% overdrive, is "built to handle 420ft/lbs. of torque and has a GVW rating of 25,000lbs." It weighs 80lbs and is 7.5"s long.

I picked up my t18 out of an 83 j20. Tried for and hour to bolt it up to my 208 that was behind my 81 j with a 176. Finally realized the 208 behind the 176 had 23 spline, and the t18 208 had 31. Live and learn. I wish I had known this b4 hand, but luckily the guy still had the 208, and we just swaped cases, as we had already traded my 176 for his t18. Dennis
