    My 'new' 79 J10

This is the truck that prompted me to start the 'Visual cues to identify J truck?' thread at http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=115831. I had found the truck for sale with no info available. So now the truck is home and I am thrilled with my new toy.

A new Razor grill will be in my future.

Nice custom rear bumper and very solid bed. No rust. Just dirt.

    The interior needs so help.

Cool old ribbed Edelbrock valve covers and a very crusty 4 barrel.

Yeah, I was talking about that in another thread. I thought the muscle grill came on a 79 because it was on this truck. Apparently someone 'updated' it. I'll be 'downdating' it to a razor if I can find one.

No idea what the steering wheel is supposed to be. I'll end up changing from this one though.

I'm pretty that the steering wheel in the picture is what it came from the factory as is.

Congratulations on the new truck. I would only wish I would take pictures as well as you can.

            Enjoy!!

The 'muscle' grill grill came out in '81 on the j truck&cherokee....the'79 would have the 'pig nose' grille. The muscle grill is a direct fit,so a P.O. may have replaced a damaged pig nose,or updated his truck.or most likely, wanted rid of that ugly, peeling, cracking piece of...plastic!The steering wheel is correct for a base model'79,as is the chrome plated, aluminum, one piece front bumper.I also see a q-track knob hanging below the dash,so it's pre-'80. Congrats on your new CLEAN J truck! It looks like it has All edelbrock equipment on the motor, hopefully cam too!

Looks like good starter material, (Rough around the edges, but the important stuff like rust and bad damage are absent ) on the wheel, pretty sure it was swaped, a S package rig should have had a sport wheel, (unless Jeep ran out that week and used a base wheel, which would not be out of the question given that it is a Jeep )

Thanks guys. I'm going to try to start cleaning up under the hood tomorrow and see what I find. I need to find a radiator so I can see if it will start. The PO said that the motor would turn over by hand so maybe with an oil change and some prep work it'll fire. The carb looks bad on the outside. Might have to see if it is rebuildable.

I still don't know a lot about J-trucks so I appreciate all the facts about what is what. I've had two Wags and a Wrangler and honestly don't know all that much about them either!

mdill... what would make this an S package?

the S package was the step up from the base stripper model, the door panels look to be better than base, what is on the floor? does it have a vinal mat or is it carpet? I assume that one who would check the bucket seat, V8 and auto tranny option would have sprung for the S rather than base package, it might be a base one with a few option boxes checked (??)
It does have the fancy (non-base arm rests) It might be a hodge podge truck, but it is not like we care about #'s matching in this crowd
