New J-2000 Owner
I bought a 1965 J-2000 sight unseen from California. It was pretty much exactly as advertised, complete and un-bubba'd for the most part, and no rust through. It's a desert truck from the Inland Empire. I intend to keep it from rusting and, after making it street legal (electrical problems) just drive it and fix things as they break. It happens to be the third V8 Jeep pickup ever made if I'm interpreting the VIN right.

Doing some great work! Funny, you have one of the first 327s I have a very late one (68, serial number in the 102K range). I see you had to modify your heater box to fit the new core as well. Nice job refurbishing the dash!

Welcome and congrats for this very early J2000 V8 !
It's the 3th J2000 V8 with a 5000lbs GVW ('W' in the VIN), or if we use the version name, it's the 3th J2500 V8, nice catch !
Could be even indeed the 3th J2000 V8 regardless of the GVW version , but my guess is rather between 3th and 5th , there could be one or two J2600, J2700 or J2800 produced before this rig, not more knowing that the lowest GVW rigs like this one had the highest production figure.
This one was probably produced in march or april 65, would be interesting to have the engine date code located on a small aluminium plate on the alternator bracket

The V8 and the new TH400 were first advertised in april 65 by Kaiser Jeep.
Your J2000 emblem is one year only (65).
Interior is unchanged from previous models, it was modified later for the 66 model year.
BTW i have an early V8 Wagoneer, engine date : april 65

Welcome to the forum!!! I'm totally jealous of your rig! You are in a great place to own one, too with BJs offroad right up the road and TONS of really active IFSJA members around you in the Puget sound area, down to Portland. Looking forward to watching you put this thing back into service.

So far so good. Lights fixed, All tune-up parts replaced, a slight carburetor issue fixed, and it's my daily driver. I've been replacing rain seals (naturally) and working on the rust.
I'm pretty proud of the fact that I had a 69 CJ for about 6 years and it was only un-driveable for a few weeks of that period. I bought some stock steel wheels and am having them powdercoated then getting some stock size tires put on (gears seem too tall for 31x10.5 tires, also they are 18 years old) then I won't be afraid to drive anywhere. My first car was a brand new 1988 Comanche, when I bought it I had to decide between the Comanche and a J truck! Amazing. They were selling these things new in 1987.

Yes, it's perfectly valid to preserve it as what it is and enjoy it as a nice old truck. Nice truck.
