bolt size for hanging motor on engin stand

I need to get some diffrent bolts for my motor in order to bolt it up to the engin stand. For some reason the set I had are too big.

anyone know the thred size of them?

3/8 and 7/16 course

3/8 course thread. The bottom 2(alignment dowels) are 7/16 course, IIRC.

They're right above. Mine were boogered so I drilled tapped to 1/2x13.

thanks going to the depo right now since the kid are done with the saturday moring sports.

I couldn't get the larger bolts at the depo so I'm using the 4 of the 3/8 right now since the heads are off.

Not to hijack this thread, but I plan to use a engine hoist to remove a motor. Do you use the same size bolts and install in the same holes that you would for the engine stand? Thanks in advance.

Kinda hard to use them on the back of the block while lifting the motor. Use a chain and a couple of the bolts on top of the motor. Remove opposite, angled front and back of the engine. Remove those bolts, install longer ones that go through the chain(18-24ins) and pull the motor up. Or, use 2 front and 2 rear and 2 chains. Follow me?

I plan to use a intake braket or one of thoese engien host things that they sell at horbor freight with the tabs and has the ablility to pitch the motor

There has been some discussion in the past of an engine plate that bolts to the intake (where the carb site).
There more than a few that think the smaller bolts that hold the carb to the intake and bolts holes in that area are not strong enough to safely hold an engine.
Also, these folks claim that the yanking and jerking of an engine as sometimes one needs to do to get it free, it really bad news for an intake.

I have never used one (because I never owned to use)
I've used larger bolts in the ends of the heads.
One on the back drivers side and one on the passenger side front.
Why there? ...because I can get the holes easy.
These are larger bolts, 1/2, 9/16, maybe 5/8...I do not remember.
I used grade 8 hardware

I then use lift brackets that came with my engine hoist weight redistribution sling.
I bolt these brackets to the heads.
I had to get longer chains.



Whatever you do and no matter how you do it, be safe!
