I ran a Powermaster XS Torque mini-starter on my AMC Spirit 401 drag car and it never failed in 20 years. It's time to replace the starter on my 77 Cherokee and am considering buying an XS - pricey at $250 though, and was wondering if any members have purchased another brand starter, and if so I would like your opinion.

I have a MSD branded starter on my 401 and it has worked great. You can clock it to multiple positions which was something I needed because of the oil lines coming out of the side of the Milodon oil pan. Don't remember the cost, but more than the $250.00 you paid. I have a friend with a 69 C/10 and he bought a off brand gear drive starter(e-bay) 10 years ago and it is working fine.1978 Wagoneer

I have a Cheapnese starter for my 401 I got from McParts now that was about $55 about 3 months ago. The Cheapnese starter I got from Rock Auto 2.5 years ago failed in, you guessed it, 2.5 years. The McParts store one I have now starts my truck right up (with 9.5:1 compression) no problem and has a 1 year warranty. If I was keeping this truck longer I would have gotten the Cheapnese McParts store starter with the lifetime warranty for $75.Chuck McTruck 71 J4000

I ran a Mean Green when I had the 360 in it.
1974 Cherokee S. It's driving but needs more work. As usual!

I ran a Mean Green when I had the 360. Worked great and could clock it for exhaust clearance.
