That could be fun. Is there anything else interesting nearby or on the way?

I vote we find a KOA campground within a couple hundred miles of Ristow's home. Wherever we pick, it should be kid & wife friendly too. It is much more fun when the family goes.

Foreverton is just a little bit, 22 miles or so,south of the Dells. I was looking at the Koa there and the one in Madison.
They also have a free night on the weekend of May9th. Pay for the 9th get the 10th free. I took advantage of this last year to go to the AMC Meet in MI. I got a cabin for $90 all weekend. You need a KOA Kampers card and you have to ask for the free night if you do it over the phone or online.
Although I spent all my time at the show I found out that the campground put on a huge kids weekend activity thing.

Is early May a decent time as far as temps go that time of year?

We use Morse chain we just aren't big enough to demand custom made stuff. Although we do modify their stock stuff.

Probably won't be a whole lot of difference between mid March and early May up that way. Last time I was in the U.P. was as a kid. We did a family trip to Mackinaw Island. Let me tell ya that bridge is no joke.
