    Adding a sway bar?

I have a 79 Wagoneer that was built without a sway bar. I bought a bunch of parts from a guy and he included the sway bar from his 84 GW. Is it possible to add it to my 79? I know that it will decrease its off-road capability, but this is mainly a street rig, and if I can add the sway bar I will also add quick-disconnects.

I'm fairly sure it will fit, I think they are all the same. Check to see if your frame has the nut plates welded in the box section for mounting the fulcrum blocks. I think I have the dimentions for that plate if you need them.

I got one onto my rig so I'm sure getting one onto a '79 will not be too hard.

If your spring plates don't have the studs for the lower mounting of the bar, you will need other plates. I've seen some that have a hole, but no stud.
Those make for an easier installation.

Threepiece188 if you could send me those that would be great!

The spring plates are still attached to the sway bar so good to go there.

I think it would be easier to tell you the dimentions as I don't know how to send pictures.
There are two important measurements to this plate. The bolt spacing is one of them. The other which is not obvious is the distance of the holes to the edge of the plate. There is a lap joint in the frame in that area that makes it difficult for three things to occure simultaneously. #1- the nut plate must sit flat on the surface #2- the holes in the plate must align with the holes in the frame. and #3- there must be enough material on the edge so the thread won't tear apart.
The overall size is also important to the plate can be passed through an existing hole in the frame.
I will look for my notes and give you the dimentions.

              I used a 3/4" x 3/8" x 4" bar but I think 1" x 3/8" will work too.

The hole spacing for the 3/8-16 thread is 3.25"

The holes should be 3/8" from the end and 3/8" from one side for clearance with the lap joint.

I put a 3/8" radius on one of the corners that is closest to a hole to help with clearance. The lap joint gets closer to the rear hole, so put the radius end of the plate at the rear. If you insert your finger in the large slotted hole in the frame about one foot in front of the shock tower you will be able to feel the holes and lap joint. Removing the front wheels will make this easier.

I did this on a 79 truck frame. I think you are doing a late Wagoneer? This plate should work for you too.

Any chance somebody could post a picture of where the sway bar attaches on their rig?

Anyone? It would really help me out just to see how it goes together. I've been keeping my camera in my car for when I run into a GW somewhere but havent seen one yet.

Probably not much help since this is a pre-'74 frame and they are a bit different.

I mimicked the frame placement off my '82 FSJ frame.
I'll be happy to snap some pic's of the '82 frame when I get home tonight.

                        Driver side from underneath.

                        Passenger side from the left.

Front hole is 8 1/8" back from the rear of the spring hanger.

My frame is a bit different ('82 shown in pic's) our older (pre '74) do not have that bulge area.
