cylinder head rebuild costs

What would be the costs associated with machine work for new valves, seals, and rocker studs? My 360 was rebuilt 10K miles ago- went from burning 1qt every 100 miles to 1qt every 300 miles. The heads were not touched really- I get smoke at startup mostly. I'm planning to go with roller rockers and new springs- hoping to get it all done for $800-900- I'd do the removal and install. Any experience out there?

I had Lindvig's Machine shop in Pheonix, OR do mine. It was magnaflux, machine the surface, new valve seals and guides, new freeze plugs, valve job. About $350 total; a bit steep but he does good work.
As for roller rockers and studs, I have no idea, but springs are pretty cheap. I bought a set for my Toyota at about $5 a piece.

how about another 800 and buy those new amc heads ,from edlebrock an give us a report on them

If you are getting roller rockers please get the Angus Purple or Scorpion rockers. They are made for AMC and not like the Comp Cams and Cranes which are actually Chevy rockers and have the incorrect geometry for AMC applications. They will work but in the long run they will disintegrate due to incorrect angles.

AMX factor what are the part numbers and stats on the angus purple and scorpion rockers, how is price and are you or someone you know running these. Will be yanking apart my money pit soon and looking for some alternative parts for it. Thanks for info.

Actually cheapest place to buy them is off the 2 companies selling on ebay. Do a search for AMC roller rockers and they all pop up. The Angus are like $180 Scorpions $210. My preference is towards the Angus but here the Scorps are very good also. The Angus are available in 3/8 or 7/16 depending on stud size and 1.6 or 1.7 ratio depending on cam lift. You'll need 1.6 ratio as I'm sure your not drag racing your Jeep. My brother uses the Angus in his 401 drag Javelin.

I was wondering about the scorpions listed on E-bay. I'm wondering if you need the pushrod guides and different pushrods to run these- the crane website states you need these to run the crane gold series. If the Angus or Scorpions have a good reputation then I'd go that route- the Crane Gold series list for $320 on Summit. g503- it is tempting to go with the Edelbrock heads, but they do not include roller rockers which would add another $200-300 to the $1,500 for the heads. I'm hoping to get a good rebuild on a set of heads with new valve guides, springs, machining for the rockers, and rockers for $800-900 total. My engine will really never see sustained runs over 4,000 rpm- I think the stock heads should flow well enough. The way I look at it the heads would be an investment as they would bolt on my spare 401 which is waiting for the day the 360's bottomn end gives out.
