Eh, what the hell. Ive probably spent and will spend the least or at least close to the least of anyone. I bought it because a buddy at work who knows my jeep addiction said it was going to the crusher if I didnt come get it. Got it for use in the bad weather and to drag my ZJ (lets not discuss that total ) to the trails and back, and also, these things are just cool. Here it goes.

Spent -

$150 - purchase
$20 - for a buddy to spend 2 hours helping me drag it out of the woods
$50 - fluids
$10 - bungee chords
$??? - my time

sub total - $210

Going to maybe spend -

$150 - get a title
$500? - odds and ends

sub total - $650

total - $860

Waaaayyyyy cheaper than my wifes car and 1000xs cooler. Even she is warming up to it.

Update:11/26/2017
The J20 is pushing $30K......no wiring as of today and no interior......
Painless wiring will add ~$600 this month.

Still in the works... But probably close to 10k +/- before it is semi decent.

I'm starting with a good body but the rest is rough.

I still refuse to answer these questions, because it would require me to total everything I have spent on it and I don't consider this necessary information...

I got it for a grand.... then fixed the tcase... then redid brakes, doing suspension, got some headers... gonna get a title for it...

"But it's so cheap!" <-- My ongoing justification for everything. Don't wanna know if it's true.

I have saved every reciept. Just took over an hour and totalled it up and my wife looked like she was going to point blank me in the face with a grenade launcher haha $22,486.14 plus shipping and handling where applicable, not counting my labor over the last decade, and thats not even bodywork yet..well, what can i say, its a never ending labor of love.

My J10 Golden Eagle is going to be right at 27 k when it's finished. it will be show quality but I'm pretty sure even at that I'll be upside down in it. and of course that's allowing nothing for my time.

I don't care I would have spent more if I had needed to. I've wanted one of these since I was 16 and couldn't afford a new one.

probably spent WAY more in gas past decade+ that I’ll ever have into them.
Bought both cheap, I just drive ‘em...no shiney or expensive bits.
Doubtful that’ll ever change?
‘88 was $1500 in ‘05, ‘90 was $500 in ‘11.
Maybe $2000-$2500 into them additional over years?
Probably more for insurance as well?

Which one???

My Cummins J20 project/ work truck came in under $5500. It's been my DD since Xmas eve and it's getting 15.5 MPG on average weighting in at 8500#s.

Did I say how much fun it is to drive???

just got it last year , and building it now, so here is what I have in it, and what is still planned:

5500 purchase (rust free everything works, and in Europe)
1000 new weatherstripping all around (was leaking on every seal!)
150 new electric mirrors (still looking for switch, only thing that did not work!)
500 new seats and bench (scrapyard, but cleaned up real nice)
600 new carpet
350 retrosound radio
250 new speakers
makes 8350,-
and countless hours already put in and still to go..
and now the fun part:

-1250 for selling the well running AMC 360, revised gearbox, transfercase and axles. (sold but still on the car)
2000 for the just bought wrecked WK 5.7 hemi that will donate its guts (wiring, computer, engine, trans, transfer, axles and front subframe) to go into this!
200 for a pristine razor grille (lucky!)
800 new 7" led projector headlights from the new JL.
and a long autumn and winter until this si all bolted on, wired up and working

with some additional unforeseen, we will be close to 12 to 13K to have this thing running and driving with its 2009 WK donated drivetrain! excited to start this build soon!

I am self employed, so I keep track of everything.
I bought my 84 a few years ago. The interior and the body were completely restored, but it did not run, in fact it was towed to my house.
Traded my 2012 JKU for it + $32,000.
Including the cost of purchase ($4,000) I have into it:
$19,237.
As a result of this purchase I have sold in Jeep stuff:
$8,316.
Some of which I sold to you fine folks.
I wanted to spend about $10,000 so I am close. Only thing left is an aw4 swap.

Someone offered me $25,000 for it. I said double that and maybe. It is the only one like it in the world!!!

Found listed in east Texas for $250. seller replied that he needed a few days to get it out of pasture. I arrived with trailer and cash, he drove it on and off I went.
Rebuilt tranny-900
Rusty's 6" lift-900
Under hood-tune up, alt, batteries, 100 oil changes from sludge
numerous license plates for holes in floor, soon hei dist.
Pure deer lease vehicle-not highway legal, but fun!!!
Possibly most reliable of 3 vehicles at the lease, other 2 being '83 bronco 2 and '85 Montero, but they are just scared little toys

Bought the beast to drive in the snow in WV. Due to "issues" it say and leased a truck. Got deployed half a year later.
Originally it was just supposed to be wheels and tires, then new door panels, then new muffler, then radio, but now I am considering using it as a DD until it gets real hot out, so now it's EFI, headers/exhaust and fixing the puddle left whenever I turn the key off....and chasing down every electrical gremlin known to man. J.E.E.P. is holding true!

Do you want me to count beer drunk while working on them? I could probably pay off my mortgage if I had all the money back I have spent on FSJ's and just the beer drank while working on them....

This thread started years ago. I replied then but since its hanging round I'd have to add another 3k to my total. Closing in on that 10k mark real fast.
