    Rock solid reliable

Just got back from another trip with Delta, 1970 J-truck, 455 olds, T-18, 4:10s. 2,200 miles out to Wyoming hunting, some pretty serious wheeling on that trip about a month ago. This latest was near Flint Michigan working, 620 miles each way, and about 200 miles a day on job. That's near 5,000 miles in the last month or so. Absolutely flawless, averaged 12 to 14 mpg, more thumbs up and compliments than I can count. Really don't understand the reliability issues that are talked about so frequently here, they're so simple there is really no excuse.... I built this truck from the ground up, it came out of Texas with no motor, trans, or t-case. Put the 360, T-18 and D-20 out of a low mileage BAD rusted 76 Cherokee 3 years (50,000 miles ago). Pulled the still running perfect 360 and built the 69 455 last winter just because 3 times the hp and a little better mileage does it for me,, and I was bored Anyway just wanted to say, drive the dang things, there a blast!!!

    Amen.

My Jeep is the only vehicle I have here in college. I drove 1100 miles out here, and have no fears of driving 1100 miles back. I've put about 15,000 miles on this Jeep since I took ownership and it's never broken down, even when it should have.

The trick is in catching things before they happen. Because of my curiosity, I take everything apart, inspect it, and put it back together again, replacing any bad parts along the way.

Old cars are very reliable. They're simple without much to go wrong. If you know the condition and how to fix and work with what is there, it's hard to fail.

I love how arguements end as soon as Ristow comments. Ristow is right...again.

Its a cool feeling to know your daily driver inside in out. My XJ is not old but it sure is simple. I daily drove my wagoneer for a year and the only time it hesitated was when the original ignition module died. Really want one thats not as shiny and clean as my 91 to drive everyday

Driving that big block J truck sounds like heaven. Spending money on fuel is better then car payments any day! Any pictures you care to post?

                    That is really cool

Having a great running rig is a proactive art. Great pictures. Thanks for sharing!

A lot of upgrades & changes didn't hurt making it a better vehicle either. Hp to weight ratio makes a big difference in Gas mileage. My 360 runs tons better than it did in stock form @ almost the exact same mileage. It is about how much love you give them though isn't it.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

It really is about the love ya give em...... AMC didn't have anything to do with building this Jeep, was built with a 350 Buick. It was all gone when I got it. sorry, just not a fan of the 360, I tried,,, again...... Went through 2 360s and 2 304s in the early 80s in Abner, my first J-truck, still using it. Used up a 400 sb Chebby, then run a 400 Pontiac, last 10 years it's a 258.... Perfect for plowing snow now, chains on all 4 wheels I just love the 455 Olds, stupid strong motor, perfect in a Jeep
