Just want to introduce myself. I recently acquired a 82 Honcho stepside / sport side and I'm planning a frame up resto-mod. The truck has sat for a few years and is a bit dog-eared but a solid platform for what I'd like to do. I'm in my mid 40's and drove CJs all through my teens and early 20s, so this is a big homecoming of sorts for me and I'm really excited about the project. I've done a few restos at this point including a 1979 GMC K35 Sierra Classic camper special and half a dozen ford 1000 series tractors. I'll be building on all that experience with this one for sure. Here are the basic specs of the truck below. I won't list all the plans, but i will post sections as I tackle them. With pics of course. Right now we call it Mike Honcho, (see Talladega Nights), but it will be renamed when the ugly duckling becomes more of a swan....
360 motor (spare 360 came with) #1 bad blowby, #2 locked up
727 TF trans leaks like a sieve and shifts like potato salad
(have a th400 on the bench already waiting to go in)
np208(AM) t case unknown condition
1 ton d60 rear
D44 8 lug front
original brush guard and sport / roll bar
factory warn front bumper
81 laredo seats and interior well mostly
fifth wheel plate in bed yes, really
custom rear bumper w/ integrated class 4 hitch
Right now I'm focused in getting it running consistently enough to put it on the trailer and move it to the farm shop where i have room, good tools and no neighbors. I will post when he makes the move and i begin tearing it all the way down to the frame.
Thanks for reading, great community here. Looking forward to giving back as much as I've taken so far and more hopefully.
