    HELP grenaded another NP 229!

Howdy all. It seems i am on my second NP 229. the first one i blew trying to make a turn on a hard surface. This one i guess I will blame on just wear since the chain blew and took everything else with it. So my question is what is the T-Case I can throw in that has a minimum of hassle and modification other than an NP 229, 228. One that will fit the stock hardware and mounting. Or close to it.

    BTW what I have is a 83 Wagoneer. With a 401, TF 727, and NP 229

    Thank you once again
    Jon M.

NP208 have to lengthen rear drive shaft and put a shifter in the floor.
I'll post the name of the guy my son is getting mine from when I can ask
him. The shifter is the hardest thing to find.

The flag shifter for the 229 will hook right up to the 208. You just remove the vacuum shifting parts. The rear drive shaft can be replaced by one from a 70s Quadratrac Wag or Cherokee. I changed mine over to a 208 one morning in Moab at camp a few years back after locking up the 229. It was only a 3 hour project. I was wheeling by 11:30.

So how does the 4wd engage if there is no vacuum? Do you have to mod the case or run a cable or something, or is it like in a SWB where you just shift and go? I need my jeep back and my mech can't finish the job as he can't really do much fab work (not allowed, works at a dealership)

        TIA

Welcome to the Grenaded 229 Club...again.

208 definitely. If you have the disco front, there are ways to keep it engaged all the time (search the forums). Add some locking hubs and you are set.
