Pics: Rust repair and crossing to the dark side

We've had major rain here the last few days, and Arizona's way of dealing with it is flooding. I was fording creeks in the road on my way home the other day. The next day I started looking at my floor pan because I had some water inside, and noticed some new rust development. I've had rust all along, but when it starts multiplying I get worried.

So my weekend was spent cleaning the floor with a cup brush/grinder and a sanding block, applying rust converter to what was left, and then spraying a base coat of Duplicolor rattlecan bedliner. I'll definitely go over it with a few more coats of the roll-on stuff eventually, but this was enough to set my mind at ease about the rust. It's really just a bandaid; eventually I'll either cut out the entire footwell and re-do what the PO welded in, or swap on an entirely different body. Anyway, pics:

PO's patch panel, I can live with it...

Rust and pitting, ground with a cup brush and sprayed with rust converter....

After pics, base coat. I know, it's rough. I'll pretty it up later.

The splotches in this next one are from crap on the camera lens.

That's what I've done for now. It's not even close to thick enough for my liking. I'm thinking 2-3 coats of the roll-on stuff on top of this will do it. One more thing on my list.

On a side note, I can't seem to get the picture imbedding figured out. I resized based on the Posting Pics thread, and still they convert to links. Whatever, I'm tired and going to bed.

Edit: Pics fixed. Thanks to Asphalt Cowboy for the tip.

That looks good so far. Were it mine, I'd crawl underneath and clean, convert and coat the patch seams also. That roll in Dupliclor makes a good undercoat also.

What I do at PB for the images is click "get link" then down to "forums full size". Left click that to highlight and then right click to copy. Then bring it here to paste.

Looks great to me. That Duplicolor spray in makes it look really clean.

I like the way it looks, but it's too thin as is. I used two rattlecans worth, and it was just enough to get one coat down in the passenger area. Even being careful, I scuffed through it putting the seats back in. Round two is going to be the roll-on stuff, and I'll do the entire bed from tailgate to footwell with at least two more coats, probably three or four. I like things overbuilt.

Lookin' good, the only thing you should do before you put the interior back in is drill a hole in that front driver floor pan for the body bolt access.

Body bolt access? Is this a bolt to mount the body to the frame, or something else? I know the PO eliminated the drain hole with the patch, but I don't know what else was supposed to be there. The first time I looked at this truck, there was no floor there, only a little rusted swiss cheese.

Yea the bolt to mount the body to the frame, just look at the passenger side floor pan it's that hole directly under the dash on the floor.

Interesting. I thought that was a drain hole. Learn something new every day, right?

As far as I know, this beast has spent most of its life in AZ, so the rust started here....
