ideas of a build thoughts desired.

ok i have a ideal of a build let me know what you guys think and have any tips or other thoughts. i have a perfect 1990 gw frame thinking of putting a j-truck cab on it with a custom built rock crawler bed i already have a built ls 5.3 for it and a th400 and np241 case thinking of some custom m715 fenders for the front and 6" springs to clear about 46" tires and run some 2.5 ton rockwells or i already have a rear d70 hd then i just need i d60 front it would have plenty lift i think with the springs and the axle over with the rockwells. and ofcourse the rear shackle stuff from bjs for the extra 5-6". any thoughts or ideas?

IF you go with the rockwells you have to make sure of the driveline angle and the pinion whacking the oil pan ... basically a lot of clearance issues. You can use the search feature on here and get some good tech info on how to do it right.

Dont mount that cab until you have the suspension figured out. You will probably have to move the front axle forward and the engine/cab back to fit the rock.

Probably need to plan to move the radiator to the bed too.

You dont need a SOA + 6" springs to clear 46"s with 715 fenders.

What kind of springs do you plan to use? Ya might want to consider links instead.

Also, Tad makes a quality product (rear shackle flip), but I wouldnt count on it to hold 46"s on rockwells without both serious frame and bracket mods.

Other than that, go for it.

Dont forget about steering too. Once you move your axle forward far enough, you will either have to get real creative with linkage or you will have to go full hydro...

I am thinking 46's on 2.5 rocks, fully hydro would probibly be the best way to go.

Now i think 6" springs are way overkill. If it is a "truggy" I think flat fenders front or no fenders just my thought. I would stick it on Rancho 44044's or Alcans...2" at the most keep it low! Full Hydro, and I would cut the firewall and move the engine back since you want to keep the body. Just to start anyway.

think im goin with the 60 and 70 and stick to 42s i have used rockwells before on a ramcharger i built and i know all abut the monster chunks and they are as heavy as a buolder lol

60/70 built with 42s-46s, full hydro, Alcan 1" springs in the front, 4-link the rear, flat belly, cage it and get rid of the 241. Go with a D300 or 205 or 203/205 setup. Push the rear axle back some and center the drivetrain so that your front and rear driveshafts are equal length.
