A good day with the '67

About a week ago I dragged the "67 out of the hay shed and around to the shop. I felt really guilty about how little time I've spent working on it. I was worried about whether or not she would even start. I charged the battery for a long time on a slow charge and stuck the end of the fuel line in a can of fresh gas but no luck before the battery went dead. I put the charger back on it and tried again today and after pouring some gas in the carb she fired right up! I need to get the oil changed and get to work on the brakes now.

              It's a 327, T18, model 20 and being DRW it has a Dana 70 rear axle.

Yesterday I removed the fuel tank so I could clean it out and get it back to supplying fuel for the truck. It's an old steel tank with a few dents but thankfully no leaks. It has a drain plug welded into the bottom but it wouldn't turn so I left well-enough alone and quit trying to remove it. I did find an old repair made with some sort of epoxy patching material but its holding with no leaking so far! I rinsed it out several times with fresh gas and got quite a bit of sediment and a lot of rust flakes out. I'm using two in-line filters between the tank and the carb so I feel OK using it until I figure out what to do about a replacement. Right now its mounted on square tubing hanging between the frame rails behind the rear axle. I'm sure I'll eventually replace it with a new plastic tank but this will work for now.

Does your sending unit work Jim? If so keep it when you replace the tank. I've got three aftermarket sending units in my various Jeeps and they all read 1/4 tank low. The one in my 71 used to read right, then dropped to reading 1/4 low. The other two did it out of the box.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have to be really careful removing it so I won't destroy it in the process. I wonder if the issue is a resistance issue in the circuit between the sender and the gauge? I replaced the sending unit in the J20 when I replaced the tank and it reads 1/4 too high. I think I can correct that by bending the float arm but I haven't gotten around to it yet!

No link with pics at the moment. I got frustrated with PB and haven't even tried in a while. What's it like working on a 327 over there?

                          67 Gladiator with a 327, TH400, Dana 20 transfer cases.

First challenge is getting the trans rebuilt. It died after a few days of city driving.

My 65 wagoneer comes from California and is what you call a "survivor" , but the 327 smokes, i am trying to diagnose the issue.
If it needs a rebuild , i guess it won't be simple..
