It may be unique in the Jeep world, but it's quite common in the Hot Rod scene.

Many reproductions out there too at not much cost.

There is no reason you couldn't make a Megasquirt pass smog, it would be some work but its as configurable as anything that exists.

Not 100% accurate. You can install an aftermarket system or modified OEM system.
The kicker is you have to visit a smog referee, if everything is installed/working correctly and it passes testing he will sign off on it.

While not specifically FSJ CA smog legal, the MSD Atomic EFI does have an EO# for chevy vehicles. Any sensible smog referee would likely allow it.

Curious what the cost has been so far for the MS?
You know it's bad when your car's on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!

Guys you could definitely make megasquirt run clean enough for a sniff test but there is *no way* a smog referee would let it pass without an E.O. number for that specific year, make & model. Definitely get it in writing that a ref would pass it before starting work.

That's a tough one. I actually started with a GM ECU style kit. The MS was built from spare parts and such so I really cannot say.

If you went my exact route for EFI , I'd say you'd be in it for ~$1500 but I have some unnecessary expense as I started with a kit.

                            $1500? Hmm.
DIYAutotune sells a carb-to-EFI kit, sans throttle body, for $829 assembled or cheaper if you don't want / need fully assembled & accessorized. Not an amazing deal when you compare it to a Holley Sniper but then, MS will do things the Sniper won't (crank trigger, multiport, etc)

I was referring to the cost of the entire project, start to finish. Not just a portion or just the MS itself.

I am running an MS2V3, from parts/kit - that portion is only a few hundred.
