    I buy ZDDP from Eastwood...

It frequently goes on sale, plus, if you join their members Club ( I did, I buy a lot from them...) you get free shipping.

I put a 2000 4.3 in a buddy's blazer and was surprised to see it was flat tappet - so what is a "newer" Engine???

The 4.3L (like the 4.0L) is a pretty old engine design, originating somewhere in the '80s. If I'm not mistaken the Atlas engines are DOHC now.

I'm using the Comp Cams break in additive from Summit. I just went ahead and bought 3 bottles. One for break in and two for the next consecutive oil changes. They recommend using it after break in, and since I'm running their cam and lifters it only makes sense. I'll probably be doing only 2 oil changes a year so the cost is negligible.

Josh - I did the same thing until I switched to Amsoil. Dyno oil with the CC's additive for about 10k miles. Then switched.
