1977 7Z Sun Orange, Omaha Orange or Haggard Orange

So, here's my issue. My info plate in the engine bay states the color as 7Z, which is Sun Orange for 1978 AMC/Jeep. However, the jeep is a 77.

The 1977 orange option was Tawny Orange, which it definitely is not. BUT, the 1976 option was Omaha Orange, which is more 'orange'.

However, Eastwood makes a GM Hugger Orange which looks pretty snazy, plus it's a quality paint at a good price.

Someone who knows these colors, at least the Sun and Omaha Orange, is this really Sun Orange? I know the camera on my phone isn't the best, but here ya go...

    Here's a 1978 CJ Sun Orange

After doing all of this, it looks more like a sun orange...

But again, if you guys have knowledge on a 77' 7Z color code, please shout it out. I'd like to order this, garage and prep as soon as possible.

You could order any color they (AMC/Jeep) offered back in the day.

7Z in 1977 is Sun Orange in every AMC paint chip catalog.
Just because it isn't/wasn't listed doesn't mean someone(or even dealer) couldn't have ordered it that color.

Yours sure looks like Sun Orange to me.

The Eastwood paint is relabeled Kirker, according to internet sources. Same for the Summit paint.

I'd suggest you go to AutoBodyToolMart and get the Kirker paint chip sheet. Then you can match the chips to the color you have, or pick the orange you like most. http://www.autobodytoolmart.com/kirk...s-p-12659.aspx

Omaha Orange is the standard fleet orange, aka CalTrans Orange (if you live in California). AFAIK you could get Omaha Orange in any year of the 70s - all you had to do was order it - paint code FB. It's still a popular orange for hot rods, as is Hugger Orange - Kirker offers both.

I would not be shocked to learn a '78 paint code was delivered for a car with a '77 VIN. Jeep was flexible with what they allowed to be ordered... if the color had been announced, I expect they allowed it to be ordered. What month was your car delivered? Unless it's been repainted, I would believe the VIN plate code: 7Z, Sun Orange.
