Hi Guys.

I'm looking into 16 or 17" rims for my 85. I want to save my mint originals for summer only driving. I see a few photos here of Jeeps with different rims, but they are never identified. I want chrome or polished. So far Mickey Thompsons Vintage lll seems like the only bolt up. Any sources out there for fitment. Whatcha got?

You need wheels with a 6x5.5" bolt pattern. I can't remember the hub diameter size off hand...maybe 2.5-3"? Easy to measure, though someone else will likely jump in with it handy. Backspacing and width are going to be the numbers you really need to watch. I wouldn't go wider than an 8" wheel, and 7" would probably be even better. Figure out what tires you want to run, then figure out how wide they are mounted (should be able to get close enough from tire specs on the manufacturer's website). Based on that number, you can figure out what backspacing you'll need. Just measure how much room you've got between the tire and spring on your current set, and use that for dimensioning.

Yeah, Cecil14 nailed it, just search 6x5.5" bolt pattern and when you find the rim(s) you like, measure the center hole. If you watch Craigslist, the later model Silverados, Tacomas, and Tundras have the same bolt pattern so sometimes you can find a good deal there (just make sure you measure the center hole). Also know the backspacing on those later rigs is pretty deep.

As far as brands, I have Cragar Black D Windows on my 79. 16x7 and I have no idea what my backspacing is (bought them off a dude that had them on a Datsun mini-truck!).

Usually wheels off IFS trucks tend to sit WAY too deep in the wheel wells, and hit the springs at least during turns, if not outright.

Backspacing is 3.75 when using 15x8 I had to order a set because the 4.25 indeed made the 32x11.50s rub the springs at full turn in front and I never even tightened a lug on the rear Because they were too deep.
