Anybody in North Carolina? What is the limits on Vehicle Height??

Is there anybody on this list from North Carolina? If so, I may be moving there soon (Depending on the job) and was wondering if there are any restrictions on Vehicle Height or silly things like that.

    Thanks in advance...

I have lived in NC all my life. I have never heard of any restrictions on our vehicles. I know plenty of people with big lifts, tires, loud exhaust, etc. 44" tires is as big as you can have, but I wouldn't call that much of a restriction. What part of NC are you planning on moving to?

There are no requirements that I'm aware of. Your vehicle will have to pass the "sniffer" test in all counties (starting next year I believe.

It says in Petersen's 4 wheel that it can't be higher then 6" above factory unless you get a written ok from the commissioner of motor vehicles. You don't need the permission slip if yours is a multipurpose ride atop a truck chassis that sees some dirt. What ever that means.

Right after I posted this question, I went to the bookstore and picked up the 4wheel and Off-Road and read the restrictions...

My truck is bone stock, but I was planning on a lift and tires later on. Just wanted to make sure that I understand ahead of time. Just hope that the truck passes emissions...

78Chief: We are looking to relocate to the Charlotte area... Any help with a place that will check my truck and pass it?? Hint, Hint...

I'm only bringing the '88.. In fact, I'm leaving in the morning to visit for the week. Going to be in the Cary and Charlotte area all week.

I've lived in NC for 17 years (Western NC,Hendersonville) and I see some seriously lifted vehicles driving among all the little cars on a daily basis. Once I got a kick out of seeing a Bronco that must of had 14" of lift with 44s driving behind a police car. The officer most likely thought nothing of it (or maybe it motivated him to lift his 4WD at home). Seems everyone around here has a lifted 4WD. I was completely unaware of this sniffing law coming up! >
