    All the pictures I have of her so far

    I posted earlier today in the "Introduce Yourself" thread, promising pictures. I may be stubborn, but I ain't no liar, so here they are!

    This first one is Olga (yes, that's what I named her) on the trailer ready to go home
    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbJ4w]

    The rest of these are of the engine bay, interior, and the best I could get of the undercarriage without jacking her up on stands
    This is of her rear end. Going to either build or find a bumper, and we have the rear glass but hear its a pain to install so were waiting on that

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7USf]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbJch]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcjbq]

    And yes, ladies and gents, your eyes do NOT deceive you. Those are indeed the original hubcaps, which apparently are pretty desirable. Not sure what I plan to do with them yet, or for wheels in general, but either way- they're pretty stinkin' cool!

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7V2t]

    The only work we have really done is taking off the dash cover and the grille, which as you may have noticed was not well off

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7V59]

    This one is just a pretty picture.

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcj41]

    Another side shot, closer up so you can see the rust.

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcjhC]

    Anddd..... here's one of the things I DON'T like looking at. I guess its natures way of saying I need an airvent blowin up my leg? I dunno.

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcjk3]

    The reason those brackets are still on the dash and didn't come off with the rest of the cover is simple- the rats nest of wiring under the steering wheel is worse than awful, and we weren't going to go through the process of tracing everything out just to reach a couple brackets. We can sort it out later, it isn't a priority right now

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7Vbb]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcdEW]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbCYm]

    In this next one you can see the misc. parts for the rear window and some panel covers

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpce1L]

    And another picture showing the extent of the rust. The white dot is not something on your screen; rather, it's the ground. Couldn't get a real close pic as the tailgate only opens from the inside and she's kinda hard to reach without taking down the "cover" we put over the rear window area.

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbDbq]

    Now were stepping into the engine bay, which houses the AMC 258 mated to a three-speed tranny... I'm pretty sure it has the quadratrack system too.

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpcem5]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpceqt]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7Qp2]

    And finally, the undercarrige. Again, my apologies for not wanting to start the engine, back it up, put down ramps, drive up them, etc. etc. Or the easier option of jacking it up. Just didn't have the time... or maybe it was the willpower. I always get those two mixed up

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7Qux]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbDSR]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kpbDX5]

    [url=https://flic.kr/p/2kp7Rbs]

    And that's all of 'em! I tried getting decent pictures of the transmission so ya'll could help identify it, but that didn't happen. Once I get a budget together and start ordering parts we will probably jack it up and see what we all need. But that's Olga, whose heart will soon (hopefully) be a MB OM606TD mated to either a six-speed manual or a five-speed auto. Much work to be done, one and a half years to do it!

    Edit: I thought I would remember to put this in, but obviously forgot to add was that we have all of the original badging, too... I think. I know we have most of them, but who knows.

    Ha - the first thing that jumped out at me were the hubcaps! Nice colors to the body and interior too.

      Wow, you have more balls than I buying something with that much rust.

      Good news is I think you have a D20 not the Quadra-Trac. At least it would be good news to me.

      I like the motor plans.

          good project.

          ready to see it after you have at it with those welding tools.

          P.S. I have seen folks on here fix rust that was a lot worse.....you can do it.

              Ooh. Pushes all my buttons. The 4-door Cherokee was the down-market version of the Wagoneer from 1977 on IIRC. A manual transmission (T-15 or T-18) and the 258 is a nice combo - no need to replace it IMO.

              My J10 has hubcaps like that too.

              It's not Quadratrac. Only the automatic transmission Jeeps got the Quadratrac. It's a Borg-Warner T-15 and a Dana 20 geared transfer case. Simple. Strong. Leave it alone, or at least drive it around before you do much to it. Fix the body and drive/wheel it - it'll go lots of places. It will run and run and run.

                Haha, sorry to hear that you dislike the idea of an engine swap, cause thats the main reason for getting this... and having something to further my wrenching skills on. I got this to turn it into a lean, mean, road-cruisin machine! And in my eyes, the 258... well, at least in this case, is a dog. Its underpowered, slow, and with this one, unreliable. For 1-3 thousand dollars, I can get a decent turbo diesel that weighs less, has more power, and more parts availability, along with better transmissions. Not to say the 258 is a bad motor, but in this instance I feel I would have a better time with the diesel. I understand the want to keep it

                  The color is awesome! I notice the number on the front fender, is it an ex fleet vehicle? Are you going to keep it 4wd?

                  Just a word of caution, in any engine swap, the big costs are usually not the engine or transmission thrmselves, it is usually the tons and tons of little bits to get it to work. All new exhaust, plumbing for a fuel system, cooling hoses, radiator, wiring supplies, tools to make power steering hoses, etc etc etc. I am NOT saying do not do it, just make sure more than half of your budget is set aside for those things. None of them are big costs but the little things add up pretty quick.

                    Yeah, we plan on keeping her 4WD, as shes probably going to become a hunting rig aside from my daily. And yes, she used to be a park ranger vehicle. No idea where, or when. As to the other things... we have a lot of what you mentioned already either lying around or available to us. While much of it will probably need to be replaced with new parts, were prepared to spend the money. Thanks for the tip!
