The tbi350 was a really simple. The fsj engine harness is amazingly simple to cleanup and splice in the new engine harness.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Okay!
Today I went ahead and started prepping the engine for removal. I used Jeff's little guide here: http://www.ifsja.org/tech/motors/removal.html
GOODBYE CHOKE!!! I WILL NEVER SEE YOU AGAIN!!!
All I have left to do is to cut off the old exhaust, then unbolt the starter and trans.
I am thinking about removing the two units separately. Or would it be smarter to just remove the engine/trans/QT together?
I dont want to remove the whole front clip. I do not mind doing the engine and trans separately.
Oh, there will be a 401 for sale shortly

Alright! Everything is ready.
I either have to unbolt the transfer case from the trans, or the engine from the trans...
I did not remove the front clip... I am thinking pulling the engine and trans together would be easier? Or should I try to get the bolts behind the bell housing? I can get to all of them, but one is giving me a hell of a time.
Also, if I do separate the engine and the trans, the torque converter will come out with the motor, right?

I would:
1. mark the flex plate and torque converter so you can align them properly if/when it goes back in.
2. unbolt the flex plate from the torque converter. TQ stays with the tranny. Flex plate stays with the engine.
3. support the transmission/transfer case.
4. unbolt the transmission from the engine.
5. pull the engine by it self. It will be easier to manuever.
6. If you are going to pull the transmission/transfer case you can do them seperately or together by dropping them from underneath.

And to think I could have bought it a year or so ago before buying something else and then something else and then well it just keeps going. It is a nice rig. That chevy engine really makes a difference in the way it runs. Smoother than smooth.1970 Gladiator. Gen V 5.3. 8L90E.

Here is the new transfer case I will be using, Its a D18 out of a 66' CJ, Its been rebuilt and comes with the shifter.
Tonight I finished preparations for pulling the engine and trans. I pulled the t-case and unbolted the engine and trans mounts, I double checked to make sure nothing was connecting them to the Jeep anymore.
Tomorrow I pull!
Anybody want a QT Tcase?Last edited by JCruz; 04-30-2011, 07:38 PM.

It was cold and rainy today. Windy too. Really miserable weather.
So I went fishing!
And lookit what I caught!
Id say she weighs almost 1000 pounds! Its a big AMC 401 and TH400. She put up a fight! (Not really) And after some wrasslin and a whackin with my trusty wrench, she came out!
Mmm hmmm. Now this is some fiiiine eatin!
She did blled a little on the way out, but its all done. 2 weekends doing it all alone and taking my sweet time.
Tomorrow I will get to scrubbing and clean out the engine bay.
I pulled the engine and trans together, and used a load leveler. I did scrape the condenser a little, but noting major.
