so here's my build list...what else?

So I determined that my issue with the J10 was a flat lobe on the camshaft...here's what I'm doing so far...

Edelbrock performer aluminum intake and 4v carb

    TFI

    Summit 8600 cam

    double roller timing chain

    brand spanking new heads

    new radiator

So what else should I do while I'm that far in?

HA...well I can't say I have better experience with one or the other...but the performer intake came with the carb, with like 8k on both...for a steal...so I'll use it as-is at least for a while...

What's the diff on rhoads lifters rather than stock as shipped from Summit in the kit?

the rhoads decrease lift/duration under about 3k rpm,so you retain strong low end torque. as rpm increases the amount of decrease tapers of till you have full lift. have them with my 8601 cam. i have a smooth 500rpm idle and good vacuum, and strong low end punch.

hmm...wonder if I can call summit and do a swap on the kit?

so why'd you go with the 8601 instead of the 8600? What I read here said that it was a bit much for our rigs?

summit will let you change the order unless it shipped of course.

i went a bit bigger on the cam than usual-i'm usually conservative on cam selection-since i up'd the compression, among other things-on this motor. i also wanted a bit more mid range punch than my other motors, and thought at the same time i'll try the rhoads lifters and see if they retain some low end punch.

i think the performer grind is a good daily driver cam in an otherwise stock motor. i think the 8600 will surrender some off idle torque, that a set of rhoads lifters would restore.
