    J-Truck Mirror Placement

I am restoring a 1987 J-20. It has factory 3 point mirrors. I noticed that the passenger door mirror sits about 1"-2" closer to the front of the door than the drivers mirror, which is centered on the vent window. All the holes on both doors are painted not bare metal, so I'm figuring this is factory placement.

Using my best "Google-Fu", I did quite a bit of picture research, and it seems that there is a large percentage of J-trucks that have the passenger door mirror set further forward.

So...any consensus on this? Insider information? Reasoning? Or am I just being to OCD? No mater what, the passenger door holes will be welded up and mirror placement will be symmetrical, at least on mine.

Interested in your thoughts, or at least where your mirrors sit.

    my thoughts

    could be a technical reason

could be difference in workers on assembly line

(each side prob installed by different worker as it went down the line.)

a friend has worked at dealerships for over 40 years
he has seen cars with different name badges on one side of a car
like a marquis logo on a crown vic,.... only on one side

    GMC emblems on chevy trucks

the list goes on and on,......

    just my ideas.

I've seen tri-pods mounted equal dist and not. I mount tri-pods legs so I have a clean view to the mirror w/o the vent window or window channel in the view. Also if your current view is obstructed, you can get different length 90* arms at any auto parts store. Better/cheaper than drilling new holes in the door.

Remembered I have several dealer brochures. All of them show the pass mirror further forward than the drivers, to varying degrees.

Could simply be about making it easier to see out of the passengers mirror.

Bingo! That's all it is. If Dolly Parton is sitting next to you and your mirror is mounted half way back the door... you only see mountains, even if you're in Fl.

              jeepman,.....that was dang funny.

I never thought of the different position
being on purpose, due to obscured view.

I see what y'all are saying.
