Broken EGR CTO...best way to remove?
Hi Team,
I finally have a little time and am working on my cherk.
My EGR CTO was broken and when I went to remove it I found that the nut part was stripped.
I was thinking that if I broke off the plastic part and put a bolt extractor on it that might work...but there is not enough clearance.
What is the best way to remove it?
Any and all advice is appreciated.
Thank you....

I’ve had luck with hammering on next smallest size wrench (usually metric).
The brass is soft, so usually easy to do, and hammering usually makes it easier to break loose.
Best to give a hard sudden smack to break these types loose.
Just pulling/pushing on a wrench frequently rounds them off.

You ever get this off?
I'd do like Tony said, but with a deep well socket. Then use the air impact on it.

Nope....I let it soak with some liquid wrench to help loosen it up.
I tried vice grips....and it broke the head off.
I dont know what to do now??
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you....

Got enough room to get a punch/drift in there on a corner to hammer it enough to break the grip then spin out with vise-grips??

Did you break it off level with the manifold? Or did you just break off the upper plastic part?
How large is the CTO across the flats? Memory says it's 7/8" ...
If so, this should work http://www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/...rs/irwin-53916

can you take a picture and post what it looks like now? Might help us see what you are working with...
Worst case scenario, I'll be pulling my intake in the coming weeks and would be willing to give it to you, if you want to come get it... (I'm just under an hour from you).

Thanks for all the advice...I will see which one I can get quickly.
The problem is that I need to remove the cherk from the backyard by Sunday....kinda under the gun again.
I will let you know.
Just out of curiosity...can I remove the fitting that the CTO is broken in....or is it part of the manifold?

cto isn’t needed to move it, and yes the rear heater hose fitting unscrews from manifold if that’s the one you’re referring to.

Hey Geminiroq, I tried sending you a PM but your box is full.
Any idea when you want to come pick this intake up? I am hoping to get it out of my garage soon. if you don't want it, I'll probably put a free ad up here on the classifieds with a deadline, then (if no one takes it) I plan to trash it...

If you are talking about the 79, the EGR CTO is up front by the oil filler tube.... if no coolant leak, as said it is not needed to move or drive until next smog check. Plug vacuum hoses as needed
Hard to tell what to do, without a picture

Any idea if/when you want to grab this manifold? If you don't want it, I'm going to get rid of it soon. Its taking up space on my desk... If you want to swing by Wesdog's garage sale, I can bring it there...
