    TFI Swap....WOW!

For the record, I'm a lurker here, trying to gain as much info as I can and not ask too many questions.

I did the TFI swap yesterday in my 360 J-10. Holy crap did things perk up!This is easily the best money that I've spent on my rig. I ended up going to 4 different parts stores to get everything, but came in at 115.00.

Thank you to all that have researched/posted about this upgrade!

I looked in the tech library and didn't see a "walkthrough." Is there one somewhere? I would be interested in a parts list, as well.

That actually is a pretty good site!

              What you need...
All the distributors for V-8's were the same from '75 to '85.
              So,
This means that a Cap Adaptor (or cap base), Cap, Rotor from a '79 Ford F-150 with 302 V-8 engine will work.

You will need a set of spark plug wires,
MSD p/n 3119 are the best.
If you want a generic set, try a '92 Ford F-350 with 460 cid engine.

The E-core coil coil is from any Ford vehicle with the TFI ignition.
Say, a '92 Ford Truck or Escort, it doesn't matter.
All of the E-core coils are the same.

Coil connector from junk yard or NAPA, p/n ICC1

I believe you mean 78-87. 75-77 had Prestolite ignition. The only real change from 78-87 and 88-91 dizzy is the connectors for the ign module.

This is the part that confuses me about the upgrade. I went into the parts store and started looking up the cap adapter, cap, & rotor. There are like 5 different options...with EEC, w/o EEC, etc. I was looking up parts for an '86 F350 w/ the 460 V8

EEC is Electronic Engine Control or computerized fuel injection.

TFI came in four different varieties that i can think of if i remember correctly - Thick Film Integrated ignition systems have been used on Ford vehicles since the late 70's up to the 90's so yea i can see why there would be some confusion

my two cents - call up Jode http://www.buildyour4x4.com/ and buy his kit and be done with it.

                              Jeff - 74 Cherokee S 401/400/QT - basically stock
